Rich Condition: Boost Leak? Advice needed.
So my car has been sitting for quite some time. I fired it up recently and found that it broke up whenever I hit boost. I strapped on my LM-1 and found that as soon as I hit boost my a/f dips down below 10:1.

Do you guys think this is a leak? how should I go about pressure testing the piping if I have no access to a compressor in this crap college town? should I use some CO2 or something to pressure test it?

I hate crap college towns just like the one im in :-/ lol. Co2 might work if you can get the proper fittings.

I am thinking of spraying everything with soapy water and taking it for a quick drive to see if any bubbles form.

I used a bike bump and started pumping away, if you have an electrical one then it will help you more

hmmm, my girlfriend has an electric one I think! will I really be able to build pressure fast enough? it has to be at TDC... I hope my valve seals are good enough...:o

Swap the plugs out first...

Dang man that seems like quite a big boost leak to be dipping your AFRS, what sounds like a pretty significant amount. Do you have a boost gauge to monitor your vacuum/boost. I think that is an easy way to determine a leak if it is that significant.

^^^***OFF TOPIC***Thank you for posting your videos all over the Web! They showed me the gearing of the P11 tranny! I was wondering how much longer the gears were and now I know

Anyway Change the plugs out

I built up 5psi using my hand pump, and it if my homemade leak tester was not leaking I'm sure I would do 10 haha.

I'm not even sure if my motor was at TDC, all I know is, it wasn't leaking air from the valve, just from the tire stem hehe.

Actually I had a huge boost leak on my BOV, and even with that my boost was building up to stock 9psi.

Check the plugs though, Johnny Wangwang does have a good point

in my experience boost leaks, even big ones, still allow for fairly high boost to build up. The motor breaks up from too much fuel before I can make over 5psi though. It feels like a boost leak.

I have to make a new pressure tester, but I am going to try the little electric compressor
