The Great Headstud Thread
Well im kinda at a standstill on this but i think for the most part i figured out what im gonna use.

I wanna really get a list of all the different headstuds made. Here is what i have come up with and a price range for all of them from what ive done searching around online. This does not include group buy prices or nothing like that.

ARP- $110 shipped is the lowest ive seen.

Info about these. We all know they pretty much suck when going with high hp. Matter fact i opted to just use oem headbolts over these. Some have used them with success while more others have had alot of failures with them because of the bad design of them not bottoming out in the block and approx. only half the threads being used. Again your taking a chance using these and just having them stretch the threads out in the block or worse pull them out completely. I refuse to use these studs period and would go with oem bolts over these as ive had no issues ever with stock headbolts.

AEBS- Discontinued but can still find them occasionally for around the $150 range.

Info about these. These like every other headstud ive seen actually bottom out in the block and use all of the blocks threads. They are a very very good stud to just throw in for a stock thread block. I believe these were available in both 11mm and 12mm but i could be mistaken. These are the ones i wanted to go with as they were a little cheaper than others and have been proven to withstand high hp apps.

Greddy- $450 Off greddys site. Didnt find too many places that could carry them for any less than that. I dont know too many people that use them because of the redicoulous price on them. They look to be a good design as well just like the others. Thats about all the info i have on them.

Tomei- $430 Again dont know too many people that use them. They come in standard size but again because the rediculous cost of them i dont know too many people using them. They as well look like a good design and are made of good material.

Cosworth- $208 Now these. These look to be something more in the price range. Cosworth as most know make a kick a$$ headgasket and their studs look very promising. Good looking design and we know their quality is top notch. I am thinking these are what i will be using for my build.

Mazworx- $180-$225 Available in standard or 1/2", the studs are made from ARP2000 material and are very strong. They are also properly designed to bottom out in the block and use all the block threads. These have been the answer to many issues and are worth the very reasonable price. The 1/2" studs require the block to be redrilled as well as the heads for both the studs and the new larger dowels on both the block and head. The gasket will also have to be opened up for the 1/2" studs. The standard size studs drop right in with no modification required.

Golden Eagle- $110 shipped These are the honda b16 vtec studs as they use the same thread pitch and bolt size, They make for a very nice alternative to using anything else as they bottom out in the block like a stud should and are roughly the same length as other sr20 studs.
Update: The B16a studs were discontinued and now a single set is being sold for both B16/B18 motors. They work the same.

If anyone has any other studs out there. Feel free to post up. And any experience with any of these studs is welcomed freely.

Are they the same style as the AEBS ones KEO? I think I have seen these in person at a shop in MI when I was up there, but not positive.

found the picture of it next to some arp

IIRC, when the studs is mounted into the block the length of the stud from the block to the threads are the same and the top threads length is also the same.

but it's been like a year since I last played with it.

hell yeah thats what im talking about. See the difference right there. ARP screwed up bigtime on their design, what were they thinking. That looks like about 1/2" plus of more threads that will actually be used in the block.

Im all for it. Im down for either the Golden Eagles, Cosworths, or AEBS, i have someone looking for a set of the AEBS right now so we will see if he can come through. If so they should be a little cheaper than the Cosworths but Cosworths producs are tried and proven. Plus i will be using the Cosworth 1.1mm headgasket as well. So we will see what happens
