Sad, but true. It is an addiction after all.

very true. Having a turbo with head room is always good because sooner or later you will get used to what you have. If you have turbo with more room you can just turn the boost up.

+2 i havent heard of many people having alot of luck with the 3071r, and to make the most out of the small frame you would most likely want to run an external wastegate. Which in turn adds more cost to your build, which you could be putting into your brakes and or suspension. I think the 2871r in the .86 is a great all around turbo, being in the turbos efficeny range isnt a bad thing. I would rather be in the sweet spot almost all the time rather than having more lag and not being in the turbos effective efficency range. You will still have some headroom with the 2871, and you can also change to an external gate down the road to make a few more hp.

In the end you have to decide what fits your driving style, and what you want to do with the car. If its a street car i would say 2871 all day. If you are building an all out race car i would consider alot more options than just the t2 flanged turbos, there are plenty of good spooling turbos that make more power if not the same power than the 3071r for less money.

Alot of mixed thoughts like I thought there would be. Where is dre? I would really appreciate he opinion on this. My only complaint with the 2871r is I have to run 20 psi to make some really decent numbers whereas with the 3071r I wouldn't have to run as much boost and thats really the main goal. I wanna keep my block as stock as i can for as long as I can.

So what is the main reason you guys not for the gt30 say no for? I mean the gt3071 will make more power(albeit higher in the rpm's, which is great for my 8k rev limiter and future cams) at less of a psi and also give me a liittle lag which i don't mind one bit. That way i won't always be boosting and i could save on gas.

Here is the gt3071r turbo i am looking at

Its a street and track car. Most of the tme it will be on the street(5K ayear), but I would actually prefer alittle lag compared to my gt28r and some more topend. My goal atthe track is to run mid 11's @ 120mph+ and i think this turbo will definitely get me there pretty easily with the right tune and set-up.

And I really want to keep my gti-r manifold and that "stock look". If I was going with a t3 flanged turbo I would be looking for a nice holset hx35 , log mani, custom down-pipe and be done. Its just something about the stock heatshield look

What was the problems people are having? Also i already have a decent suspension(agx's on road magnets w/ ST sway bars) and a ad22's brakes, so i am pretty happy with that part of my car. I mean I know I can get a better suspension or better brakes, but I am very happy with what I have there.

Honestly, if your only looking for 350whp then get the 2871. There are several different ones though. the 743347-1 is the 48 trim and has the LEAST lag. you can get full boost well before 4000rpm and it will make 375whp at 20psi no problem. the GT3071R is a bit laggier because they use the cut down 60mm turbine wheel ( down to 56.5mm). This keeps the flow up but reduces the actual applied work to the turbine. The T2 .86 a/r 56.5mm 90 trim turbine does flow more than the T3 .63 a/r 60mm 84 trim but because of the turbine scroll/wrap the T3 is more suited for that turbine wheel.

the T2 GT3071R can make over 450whp with the right parts and setup, but if you are using a factory turbo manifold than i'd run the GT2871R especially if your not going to try to get every last HP out of it and be at the track all the time.

You don't even have to ask Dre, read any of his posts on T2 turbos and he will say the GT2871R hands down. After talking on the phone to him about it, it is his favorite "street and weekend" turbo. Now he may be able to enlighten you on why he likes it because I have forgotten the intricate details.
