Thread: E-85

Here in florida we only get E85 we don't get the winter blend ( at least that's what it says on the web site). I have switched to it for like a month now and still have to get the car tuned good but i was able to get it close to were it needs to be. I'm using 1600cc injectors i got from a friend that runs E85 in his EVO in Texas. It feels alot better than before. I'll try to tune it this week for the event coming up. Most of the fastest cars down here are running it with great results.

Gio has been running it in his SE-R with no issues at all. He is saying that he might go back to pump gas because the drivability is better.

I have no issues with drivability, just a funky idle every once in a while but i can live with it.

Yeah my idle would be off every once in a while, but other than that the car just needed more timing in which I had no adjustment of, but now that I just did my own Ecu I can play with. Reason two is I drive my car daily and the gas mileage was not good then having to run to the same gas station everytime got annoying. Third and last I like simple setups and I did not want to upgrade my fuel system just yet. So I am going back on pump and some 110 fuel. Later I may get back to e85 just not now. some may ask how NA cars react to E85 and if you can make more power. The answer is yes! Why?

E85 has less BTU of energy per gallon than gasoline. How can it make more power than gasoline if it has less energy than gasoline? Because you use more of it!

E85 is oxygenated, it has its own oxygen molecule attatched to it. Which means the fuel adds part of what it needs to burn. The extra fuel added more helps make up for the less energy that E85 has. So there are still gains to be had just from the fuel adding its own oxygen, though they may be small.

And the higher enthalpy of transformation for E85 (and the fact you are using more of it as well) helps make for a cooler, denser air charge.

But I still like my gasoline. All my friends with E85-E70 cars can't start theirs in the winter up here without using a whole can of starting fluid hahahahaha.

I'm still up in the air. I just swapped out my gear stacks and put in a new clutch so i still have to break it in a little. If i don't race i will drive it up and put it in the car show or something. I'll just make sure i have some extra E85 just in case i run low .

It's racing gas from a regular gas station and for less than half the price.
