I had the time and money to go either VVL or DET...and I chose high C/R DE. haha

I would of gone VE but it's too hard to get the motors over here....the VE scene is half a dozen cars in the UK. I sometimes do regret not going Turbo just because of the straight line power....but luckily our roads are thin and windy so I don't get that urge much.

And blasting Welsh B roads in a N/A car is perfection.

hmmm i think it's just frustration on my part in getting the ve running now. I've been struggling a bit with getting the management system set up.

Judging by everyone's responses it seems the NA car must be kept! So perhaps I should just take my DET frustrations out on my s13. Maybe time for the CA to get swapped for a SR...

Hmm, from what I have seen over the years (and my own experience)

turbo = more headache (to some extent) but the sound and potential is amazing
VE = nice, reliable 8000 + rpm fun everyday but can only take it soo far

Me personally, I am at heart a turbo junkie, but the headache involved in owning a non-stock factory spec one is just too much headache for a daily sometimes.

I really think it all comes down to how much maintenance cost you can bear. I have noticed that the VE guys have greater reliability out of their motors than do the DET guys.

Speaking for myself, my DET was a pain. I am planning on buying another SE-R after a long break from B13s, and I plan on going the VE route. A B13 next to the brand-new car I plan on buying once I am done with my deployment: priceless!

Speaking for myself, my DET was a pain. I spent more time fixing it than having it run. I dumped too much money on it, and I should have called it quits much earlier.I am planning on buying another SE-R after a long break from B13s, and I plan on going the VE route. IF anything and you cant decide between ve and det just take a det and put the ve head on it. Then you have the best of both worlds. It will take a little work but will be really nice when its done.

If this VE build does not succeed in my expectations, then I'm going w11 in the fwd n14 chassis, and the ve head will go on a rwd det block in the s13. I think VET will be a bit of a waste in a FWD car.

But alas, the VE started up again yesterday. I don't wanna speak too soon but seems I finally got the management set up correctly for the optical distributor now. I'll probably start a seperate thread with pics and updates.

why would you put a VE head on a low compression block for NA?
