Thread: EGT Gauge

Well I have a place for one more gauge... So I'm thinking about doing EGT gauge. From what I understood you can basically tell if your running to rich or too lean by the gauge (without bothering with a wideband).

Does anyone have specifics on where to put the Gauge? I found this website, which had a lot of useful stuff.

I already have the following gauges/readings:

• Boost
• Oil Pressure
• Water Temperature
• Voltage
  

EGT gauges are old school for tuning aspects relatively. Depends on how much info you need on your engine....but for your needs screw the EGT gauge a wideband would be a much better investment and more helpful.....Get a UEGO......

If you're too rich, leaning it out with decrease your EGTs. If you're too lean, richening the mixture will decrease your EGTs.

Confusing ain't it?

What good are they? Well, once you have your fuel map pretty well set up, you can use an EGT gauge to see what happens when you mess with your timing. That way you can monitor if you're adding too much timing or if you need to add more. That's normally done after you have a pretty decent fuel map.

Wideband is not as elite as manually reading things! Haha. But widebands are a little out of my price range...

And you need to buy a wideband O2 sensor + controller at the least if you plan on tuning. I recommend the Innovate LC-1 controller (get it with a gauge if you aren't going to tune with logging, and insist on tuning by viewing the gauge).

EGTs are not for tuning fuel, they are for tuning timing.

It's not pointless. It's just not for tuning fuel. It's great for tuning timing...
