my car runs 180-210 most of the time its normal. Fans dont kick on till 212*.

The timing maps on the GTIR ECU are as I understand it, made for running 20* initial timing.
It's the avenir motors that run 15-17*.

Running timing too far retarded can cause heating issues, but 205 or so degrees sounds just about normal for a car, especially for emissions purposes. Whats the ambient temperature? By any chance, have you checked the accuracy of the gauge with something like a IR temp gun?

Now you see why I am getting fustrated......I think I might be running to much timimg on the distributor, so I am going to retime the distributor to 15-17*. I have been reading that you shouldn't run 20* on the ditributor in the us because our gas really sucks, so I was told to back it down and just run the 20* timing maps and not 20 mechanically ,If thats not it then maybe the thermostat might not be working right???? I don't know like I said its not overheating, but running to warm and when the summer comes 210 will turn into overheating.

thats alot of timing. my car runs around 180deg in the summer in charleston but I have a koyo rad and a nismo thermostat. I had some issues with my car running hotter than I would like in cold weather until I put the koyo in. I also set my fans up to come on from a switch so the car stays cool in traffic.

If your fans are not kicking off then you did not bleed it right. They need to kick off, there is a air pocket in their somewhere.

Jack the front end of the car up as high as you can to the point till the rad filler neck is higher then the heater core, before you do this take the bleeder screw out and make sure you have a steady stream of coolant coming out. If you dont reise the car up like i told you then air will be trapped inside the heater core, idle the car up to temps and wait till the FANS KICK OFF with the rad cap off, its a bitch to bleed these cars but if not done right they will run hot.

if you turn the heater on while bleeding the car per the fsm you don't need to raise the car at all. I do agree any air trapped in the system causes serious cooling issues. I know I have been there.

It *should* but every time i tried it i still had air trapped in there, had to jack the car up still.

that sucks. I know where you are comming from after bleeding the cooling system a few times you get pissed and will do any thing so you don't have to do it again. I will have to remember that the next time I come across a stuborn cooling system.

They are always stubborn, i have only once came across a easy bleed job! Jacked it up, fans came on, then 30 seconds later off, i was stumped

Thats exactly what i did when bleeding my car. I turned the heat on and took off the cap in the back against the fire wall until it had a continous flow of coolant. Went inside the car and the heat was blazing hot.

Oh and my car is on a decent hill, so the coolant will be already going that way. I guess i will redo it once I get my other issues straightened out.....LOL
