It works and works quite well, what extra tuning? You have a smaller turbo spooling the bigger turbo, there is no extra air going in the engine just quick spool from a monster turbo.
This has been working in the heavy business since 2004, compound turbocharging is more reliable at high boost then a single turbo for millions of miles.
