S14 with SR20 or KA24
If I was building a S14 what motor would be the best choice the KA24 that the car comes with or a SR20DET swap?

KA24 has more tq, cheaper to build, underrated

If it was me (this is my opinion) I would not swap out a KA to put a SR in it. The KA motor gets no love from most people especially here on a SR20 biased forum.

The KA even in stock form is a badass engine when boosted. It is even better when built.

I say keep the KA and if you really plan on dumping cash into it I would drop some pistons and rods into it with a nice turbo kit.

Unless your going to build the KA or you want under 300whp Id swap the KA out for the SR. Seriously, the KA is a GREAT motor. But its not setup for boost. So it may run great for a while. But it will eventually fail and the weak points of the unbuilt motor will show. If it were me though it would be a tough choice. The Tq of the KA or the rev happyness and smooth power band of the SR20

But the money I will spend to get the complete SR20 swap and install it can be used to build the KA24

Just curious, what are the weak points of the KA24DE engine? Are you saying that with a good tune even after a while it will fail?

I would say it depends on your power goals and how deep your pockets are. The ka will do just fine with low boost and proper tuning. As stated above it will make lots of torque but at some point you will reach the limitations of the motor. I would drop in a blacktop s13 motor but for less money you can boost a ka and make more power.

I have seen some badass KAs around here. I vote KA. Sr is great and all, but the extra beef of the KA motor is a much more fun powerband IMHO.

the smooth rev happyness of an sr....hahahaha this is funny, we have the same argument down here but sr vs rb20 or ca18..but the sr aint the smooth revvy one
