Drifting has nothing to do with anything, any well balaned RWD car can be a drift car.

Running 7.2 secs is another thing. That was a drag car, with carbon fibre body at maybe 1500 pounds on alcohol I have not seen any KA24DET drag cars.

I can find a few KA24DETs that run 9 secs in Miami and they are street cars. I can also tell you that KA24DETs dont fall apart like SR20DETs. There are not any 9 sec SR20DET street cars around here.

They dont run KA in circuit racing.

I can tell you the KA24DETs dominate SR20DETs on the streets around here and those are facts.

I have an open mind with this and I am an SR20 guy but the truth is the truth.

CA18 bluebird, I was not the one who compared a KA24DET to a RB20DET in this thread. I just replied to the comparison that the KA24DET is superior.

I just said for the money spent, and the power gained the KA24DET will man handle the RB20DET.

When you see a KA24DET with 500 WHP and 500 LB Ft Torque at 20 PSI and see it run 10 sec times in the 135 MPH range you will think twice. The KA24DET is somewhat new to racing but the street guys know where it is at.

This is all based on what you have to work with, If the RB20 was standard in the USDM cars then you would be talking about how good it is and how many people you know with xxxwhp cars. And the relatively unknown KA24 that was only sold in Japan would be looked down upon.

Surely Nissan weren't that stupid to put an inferior engine in every single 4 pot turbo car they made?

hey having an open mind is good

i have personally owned
ca18
sr
rb20
rb30
2jz

and driven many more

and each engine has its good points

i am not meaning to bag the ka24 soo much as it is a great budget engine, and would make a wicked fun street car and to be honest i would actually put one in a s13 over a rb20.

i am just saying that the engines are all different kettles of fish and they have their different qualities, i just dont think you can say the ka24 is superior to the rb20 or sr20 cause the FACT is the ka24 hasn't accomplished jack. Where the other two have

rb20's have horrible oil pump problems..... which is a pretty important issue also.. the reason the KA doesn't rev high is because it has a large stroke! and still we are compare factory turbo engines to a factory NA engine...

CA18 bluebird

I would take a KA24DET over a CA18DET, SR20DET and RB20DET

I would take the RB30DET and 2jz over the KA24DET.

The SR20DET and CA18DET are motors that came out in Japan and came in the S13, S14 and S15 cars and they were sport cars that were popolar with racing, so people raced them and big companies made parts for them.

The KA24DE motor came here in the same cars and these cars were a flop because they were selling a sports car with a motor that had no following and no one made parts for this car more than filter, cams, header and exhaust.

What you have is a grassroots following that are bringing this motor up on street tech not some multi million dollor company, so progress is slow.

This does not mean those motors are better.

KA24DET motors are kicking the ass of of SR20DET motors all over the street.

Lets take a look at Mazworx's full body S14 that made 750 WHP on a full race SR20DET and with 250 shot of NOS 1000 HP. Regular race gas.

Now lets take a look at many a street guy that is making 700-750 WHP driving around on the street in full body cars running 9 sec time slips. Regular race gas.

Full race SR20DETs at 700-750 WHP

Street KA24DETs at 700-750 WHP all on a street following in the last 6-8 years. No exsotic parts here.

Think about that for a second.

Now we are getting it....The thing that makes the ka24 sooooo good, is also what it not soo good

the engine is designed differently, so you cant its superior, because it isnt. It may make better torque, but the rb20 revs a crap load more and smoother, you dont need as much torque if you have more revs.

hold a ka24 at redline and an rb20 at redline and see what one blows first even with the higher rev limit of the rb

my point is you cant say one is superior, they are designed differently. There are situations where the rb20 will run rings around the ka and vice versa

both will be very fun weapons if used in the right car/situation.

That being said i am not a fan of the rb20 swap into the s13, many friends have it and like it, but its not for me

i will say this

if drag times are all that matter to you the ka will outshine the rb

but sometimes a car can be more fun in the hills and on the track with less power

because of this fact i WOULD NOT TAKE MY 2JZ OR RB30 OVER MY RB20, CA18 OR SR20!

its just not that simple
