Thread: no oil feed restrictor-dumping thick, gray smoke-oil in intercooler

- just added factory stock "DET" turbo system to my sr20de

-after driving around the block a couple times it started smoking badly and running rough.

-lots of oil in the intercooler pipe.

- no oil restrictor, however it has thin -3 AN line

-turbine has barely noticeable, maybe .009", shaft play

-If i am feeding it too much oil, did i already "blow the oil seal" or is there still hope for this turbine if i install a restrictor?

I think the turbo is prob ok on shaft play, but you may need a restrictor in line to prevent too much oil pressure in the turbo. The oil seal is more like a piston ring than a "seal", and it is still possible that the turbo is bad.

Coheed's right, and from personal experience, if you're not running a restrictor, you'll push oil past the seal and get smoking. Get a restrictor and let us know how that works. Just so happens I have one in my garage from ATP turbo, it's 1/8th NPT both sides, I think it's $20 from ATP and I'll ship it to you for half that if you want it. LMK.

You'll need a restrictor. And also make sure your crankcase vent is not hooked to the pressure side.
