I rather run a junkyard turbo than a chinese copy. I used to do first article inspection I can tell you nothing made in china ever got past me and in to production. They have no concept of quailty or know how to build something to spec.

my dad worked for years with a company that manufactured his motorcycle garments. there were several times where he had to send entire shipments back because of flaws. now, since expanding the operation, he lives in china so he can watch everything that goes on and make sure that the number of errors is kept at a minimal. think about that. it took him to actually have to go live there before stuff came back to the proper american standards. that's the garment industry but think about a machine shop...

you think someone who gets paid $15 a day (if even) to sit there for 14 hours with a die grinder is going to do a good job with your turbo? you think they're really going to give a shi t if the part lasts for a long time?

its true, i could possibly see using the manifolds but not the turbos, About 5 years ago when i lived in Texas a buddy used one on his sleeved d16 block build for his civic. Sure it ran good for all of about 3 weeks until the wheels siezed up inside the housing. This happened 3 times within 2 months. So yeah but but manis i could see using, They are a decent design as far as flow is concerned and i think if you made 2 or so supports going from the turbo and manifold to the block i think it would probably last for a while. But in my opinion you should do this with any manifold. Especially if you went with a protech tubular mani, why wouldnt you make extra support for them. There is always the possibility they could crack and break no matter how strong they are. Why not protect your 700+ dollar investment and make supports.

As far as that goes with the proper support i dont see why these manifolds couldnt last a while. I mean for the price why not. Buy a nice used garrett or turbonetics turbo for $400-600 bucks and try the manifold with some supports and you would still have a cheaper setup that should last for years as long as your using the right parts. I would say even if their turbos have gotten better why risk it. Two ebay turbos equal one nice used garrett or turbonetics t3 so why not just spend the little extra on the turbo side.

BenFenner ive had garret turbo's and i just bought a holset. how am i such a terrible person for runnin an ebay turbo and making great power out of it....so to you mister BenFenner you can kindly **** off. i'll listen to sqd and anyone else with an impressive car. but i wont listen to someone that just reads things on the internent and wants to chime in. my car runs great on an ebay turbo, i'm breakin off 400+whp cars left and right. so why should i listen to someone that tells me my stuff is junk. you havent ever seen it or ridden in it. so all the haters can suck my nuts. maybe one day when mommy and daddy racin sponsor's me, i can have a nice turbo.

^^^dude get off yourself. This thread is turning to crap because of people like you. For one you may have lucked out with your turbo but there are many other people online and that i know of personally that used an ebay turbo and the thing blew out the seals, locked up the wheels or just plain fell apart. So yes your stuff is crap compared to the real things that have had hrs upon hrs of r&d into them as far as sized, materials used. So yes there is no way your crap will anywhere outmatch the true stuff.

You dont hear of garrett or turbonetics turbos falling apart, locking up wheels do you now, you dont hear of protech mani's cracking and falling completely apart now do you. Hell no because they are better made, plain and simple.

Oh and sure you might run fast but so did my buddies civic that had an ebay turbo on it. He ran an 11.7 in it but yeah for how long. Not very being he went through 3 turbos in 2 months all from different problems. Locking up wheels, blowing the seals out soo bad there is oil flowing out the exhaust downpipe, yeah go right ahead and use them. Again i dont think the mani's would be that bad as long as braces were used but hell f'n no on the turbo.

IT just depends on who makes the turbos. My good friend builds turbos and sells them on ebay. I would put one on my car in a heartbeat. He does full polishing, balancing, and everything in his shop and makes a hell of a good turbo.

I would be wary of some ebay sellers, but there is some really really good deals out there.

BTW, we had a guy dyno one night and his turbo exploded. He got his off ebay. When we took the turbo out the shaft had broken, and the balancing was so horrible the blades on the compressor were paper thin in parts in order to get it balanced haha! Talk about crazy.

At the very least, buy a turbo and fully inspect it before installation.

for the record, didn't greddy say they went out of business because of cheap chinese knockoffs?

I haven't put anything on my car from ebay, and suprise, nothing has ever failed. I beat the **** out of my car religiously, and put over 10K miles this summer alone on her including hundreds of drag practices and canyon cruises. Not one failure. I can't say it would have failed with the ebay stuff, but I can say that my money was well spent.
