There was a guy on one of the Evo forums that was building his entire car with all Ebay parts, including the turbo. He never ended up finishing it and the thread slowly became inactive.

I'd love for someone to do an all-ebay car just for the hell of it. It'd be interesting to find out how (un)reliable it becomes and what issues they run into and how much power they can make. Anyone know of anyone on another forum or anywhere doing this?

Not all of the ebay turbo's were like that. A friend had one that actually lasted over a year on a ls/vtec setup pushing 15psi, but you never know what your gonna get(no pun intended forest).

Haha, well I know of a guy who built a internally stock KA-T with all ebay parts. So far 1 year, 300whp at like 12 or 14 psi . Problems reported during the year:

-Turbo started to smoke (fixed with an oil restrictor)
-Manifold with small cracks (repaired, and problem fixed after he installed some braces to support the weight of the turbo)

I my self used an ebay T25, it lasted a year before it started to smoke, i dont consider that bad for the price i paid, but i rather use a garrett turbo. Or a truck turbo (holset, mp, bw) not overpriced and made to last LONG.

The quality on the manifold are non to 1 .. You have to re-inforced with a tig weld to make them last some time.
Turbos ARE A REAL JUNK !! I cant belive there some people buyings this crap parts.
Reliable turbo setup its NOT going to be cheap for 350+whp.

yay! congratulations! tell them to put their car up against one that's built with quality parts and put them on the track for 3 consecutive hours and see what happens!

If your setup is breaking manifolds maybe you have another problem. IE flex pipe, loose supported exhaust, ****ed engine mounts etc. Cheap people are quick to blame the part and not their setup. Don't get me wrong, some are cheap and end up breaking, but the 3 that I've had had zero problems. I really just cannot justify spending a $600-1200 on a "good" manifold.
