stripped coolant feed banjo: alternative
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have done some searching only to find what i already know.
when installing my oem banjo bolt/line today for the coolant feed, i am pretty damn sure i stripped the block. i plan to turn the key monday, and instead of "hopeing" it doesnt leak, i want to just fix it now before i bolt up my downpipe. i plan to just remove the line and plug it up with a spare banjo bolt i have on the remaining good threads in the block.

i know i can buy the CS block from pat(yohanza) but i am SUPER low on cash. i want to use the coolant lines that loop through the TB. there is a spot i have reserved on the "hard" lines for coolant return. question is, can i just simply tee the TB coolant line for feed? will that produce enough pressure to feed the turbo? or do i have to use one line specifically for feed, and one for return?

i theorize that since that line is just a one way loop, teeing it may not create the needed pressure to feed the turbo correctly. in turn, i would need one or the other for feed. if that is the case, which one do i use for feed? left or right?

i hear the cali guys do this all the time. maybe they can chime in? please?
oh, also, i am in NH. i hear its not recommended to run my car through the winter if using the TB lines for coolant.....why? removing the warmth from the coolant through the TB will harm the airflow how? i dont understand.

Hey man, I have a piece I'll throw at you if you want it. Cover the mailing and I'll give you the part. It's an upper water neck with a barb fitting tapped into it. I used it for coolant return for over 2 years with no problems at all. If you wanna pic I can get one. LMK on it.

Here's what I did... a simple brass 90* barb fitting tapped in. I did coat the threads with JBQuick before I threaded it in since the metal is pretty thin. It worked fine. If you have something for return already on the hardlines, I would say that should work fine for a feed, assuming by saying the hardlines that you mean the ones just before the thermostat. That's where the stock feed port is anyway. Anyway, here's a pic:

before I had this installed, I was running pvc T's in both the heater hoses. Worst case scenario you could resort to that. It means more hose, but it would get the job done. They'll get good pressure no matter what.

OK, finally got your pics on the other forum to load. My internet is being crappy lately...

Anyway, the one that you are pointing to in this pic is the stock feed location:

This pic shows the stock return location:

The water flows from the water pump towards the tstat, so the nipple just before the tstat is always going to be pressurized, giving you a feed. For return, you want something more passive, you don't want to have two pressurized lines fighting each other or you won't get flow. So you want one before the tstat and one after. The front of the block is what the nissan engineers wanted, but I opted to go with the upper water neck on my old setup. It worked fine and tucked nicely out of the way.

what you call the water return on the block is what i thought was the feed. either way, thats the one im pretty sure i stripped. the line is on with the banjo in, i just think the threads in the block are now stripped. although i wicked appreciate your offer, i am impatient and want to turn the key monday. i will just use the TB lines for both feed and return instead of just feed. thanx doc!!!

can i just be smart about warming up the motor and letting cool and not run the coolant lines to the turbo? i have a turbo timer so this would make my life sooooo simple!

I wouldn't, honestly, I'd stick with water lines. You'll be fine using the TB lines, just extra line to mess with, which, as I've mentioned before, I've tried hard to limit in my own car... Let us know how the key-twisting goes!

I ran my T25 without coolant lines for like a year, the previous owner did as well and so is the current owner. It never had a problem. If it bugs you, you can just do the lines later after you get it running.
