Breaking 400whp on a t28??
It is time again for me to start a new project. Blowing the head gasket twice on my old motor and low oil pressure has lead to the decision for a new motor. Just hear out my setup and see if it would be possible to break 400whp with a t28 on a somewhat low budget. (I want to try)

I'm going to start with a DET and put on a gtir t-28 running at 18psi. As for internals I was considering just getting pistons (I don't know which) but I'm not totally sure if they would be necessary. The head would be topped off with JWT S4 cams, springs, and retainers. The fuel system will be 50lb injectors, Aeromotive fpr, and a Walbro 255. The intake would have a z32 MAF and front mount of course and the exhaust would be a 3in downpipe to a cutout. What I think will break the barrier is that I plan to spray at least a wet 50 shot of nitrous maybe a 75 if I'm feeling lucky. All this will be on race gas probably 107 octane.

Alot of the power is in the tuning and timing (cam gears ect.) so it is going to be tuned by e-manage as it works well for me and my friend can write excellent fuel maps and what not for it. I'll use it as a window switch for the nitrous as well. Don't worry about the drive-train I will most likely be putting in a p11.

Thank you for any input and I will keep this thread updated with pictures and more when I rip everything apart when I get home from college for the winter.

Depends on the T28 if it's a 2871r or a 2876r, it can. if it's a gtir T28, 325hp is kind of the max.

Yah, the T28 just can't flow more air. It runs out at 320 WHP. Game over. With the 75 shot you might be able to make it. Should be able to make it.

I was thinking the t-28 would be maxed and I thought about the gt28rs but I just cant afford that right now and I think it would be cool to make alot of power on just a t-28. If I could maybe squeeze 350 out of the t-28 I definitely think I could do it with the nitrous. Is there anything I should do elsewhere maybe to make some more power? Port the exhaust and intake ports as well as the exhaust manifolds and add some valves, that may add a little hp but it will also cost more.

Try a T28 with a larger front cover maybe... This may net more Compressor Flow.

No. The T28 can't flow more air. Nothing you can do will change that. Need larger turbo for more air. Porting and polishing and cams and whatever will all bring down the pressure needed to make 320 WHP, but won't let you run any more power than that.

Well if you changed the front compressor housing it would flow more air so I would be able to make more power.

while the gt28rs would make really efficent power at the ammount of power it culd make it wont get near 400whp.

best bet for a t28 would be gt2871r with .86 and even then you will need some good supporting mods to do so.

i really dont think that the t28 could make or take that kinda power and even if it did it would be unefficent power and put the turbo way out of its spool and efficency def not worth it

Why not just go with something larger than a t2 flange... do you just want 400whp to be your peak? There are other turbo's that wouldn't be as expensive, non garrett types specifically if you are just looking for the numbers.

no going to happen. i made 280whp in my t28 @ 16psi say at 18psi i could have hit maybe 285 possibly 290 but my tune is terrible, super rich, when my safc is hooked up and tuned i know i can hit 300whp but that i believe is the limit.

get a bigger turbo.

stratton.
