Thread: Reputable mechanic or shop near Tampa?

Hi everybody,
I’ve got a 93 NX2k with an SR20DE in it…. For now.

I’m on the verge of buying an SR20VE off of Mr. Andreas Miko. I know, it sounds more like a time to rejoice then to start whining on this thread.

The dilemma is this. I live near Tampa.

I need to find a place and/or people that can do the job THE RIGHT WAY.
I’ve been searching this forum and the other forum, and so far all the places or people that used to be as good as gold have either moved or have gone out of business.

I’ve called about 17 places between yesterday and today.

7 of them never picked up the phone, 4 of the places now strictly only do repairs, 3 of the places are out of business, 2 of the places I left messages and still no calls back, and the 1 guy who could do it said he’d do it for $1000 if I brought the motor to him!! Every time I spoke to these places/people and explained what I need done, these guys bust out with tap dancing shoes and began the verbal version of Riverdance! Their enthusiasm was lackluster at best.

I wouldn’t mind doing the work myself, the only problem is I have very limited tools, no knowledge on the type of job, and no real place to do it. I also wouldn’t mind having a bunch of gearheads roll up to my apartment complex and a group of us to do the job; I’d even provide food and drinks.
Alcoholic drinks would have to be after, not during….

I’m almost desperate folks, if I can’t find a decent place/person(s) to help do what needs to be done, I might just pass on buying the engine altogether.

I took your advice subscribed to the forum.
I was hesitating for a while cuz a friend of a friend got his racing seats stollen out of his S2000, when they caught the three guys who did it they found out that these guys did the same to multiple other S2000 owners, all of whom (the thieves and the victims were on [url]www.tamparacing.com[/url])

They used the forum to scope out cars at meets, and you know the rest.

But i guess when it comes to the internet or anything in life you gotta take the bad w/the good.

Long story short (I guess not that short) I have an appointment with a shop called S & R Performance.

A well know tuner in tampa call "Alpha" gave me the number and it turns out the guy works at the same shop that someone told me about on the other forum.

Yeah, I just figured that out the hard way, I was told if I had a honda things would be alot easier for me.

I was also told, it would cost me about $2000 including labor, misc. parts, fluids, etc.

So I think I'll have to find a way to do it myself, or do a group meet motor build if people are willing.

No one is gunna steal your car if they dont know where you live.

Ive heard a VE swap is pretty straight forward. Theres people in tampa/stpete but they're all hiding under rocks.

yeah, I've been going back and forth between this forum and the other one and so far everyone's been pretty supportive.

I will probably use all of them if I can. 1st thing's first. I need to start with the basics. I'm saving up to buy a "chuck header" from GregV, and an exhaust from robchaoa19, at least then I won't have to worry about spending unecessary amounts of money.

Then VE power will be mine!!!
