Dre, one thing is to calculate something, another thing is to actually do it. As engineers, we recognize that when we design a set of plans, the reality of it is, a good chunk of it doesn't end up on the finl as-built plans. In orther words, designers will design a piece of roadway but the real question is, the constructability....can it be built?
I'll entertain you mathematics for the fun of the discussion.
For example, I drive from exit 12 (Caribbean BLVD) on the FL Turnpike to exit 62 (Commercial Blvd.) EVERYDAY to work. The exit numbers correspond to the mile markers so 62-12 = 50 miles. I'll tack on another 4 miles due to the side streets onto the TPK & off which is right on the dot with my odometer...total 54 miles from my driveway to parking spot at work.
I drive the TPK at 80 MPH; no traffic @ 6 am. It takes me exactly 60 mins to get to work. I am going on 15 months on this routine. Plenty of sample time.
With that said, at 80 MPH, it should take me 40.5 mins. to travel 54 miles.
80x = (54*60) --- x = 40.5 min. Right?
Can you please explain to me why it takes me an extra 19.5 min. to reach my destination???? I'll do you the favor Dre. You left out a couple of variables in your equations, Dre. Acceleration, deceleration, lights, toll plazas, & other vehicles. Because I travel 80 MPH doesn't mean I was actually traveling 80 MPH. Those variables affect the total time depending on total distance. If you drive 2 miles, you have a chance of being more accurate with those mathematics forumlas. If you drive many miles, the accurancy starts going out the window.
You are an extremely smart man Dre, so you should know what the difference between mean & median is, correct? Ever looked at a distribution table?
Dre, I know the distance it takes. My job consist of driving / designing / constructing on all state roads from Broward County to Indian River County (next 4 counties up from Broward). Driving to Moroso is almost an everyday thing for me.
I love you Dre
