Damm Road debris -
Im fking pissed off right now , this mornining im driving to work at about 5:40 am and im on 595 headed westbound , i suddenly see the car next to me swirve to the left and i see flying road debries of metal of some kind, its is headed right towards me at 70 mph , so i hit the brakes to slow down a bit just above 60 mph this piece of metal bounces off the hood of my car and then hits my windshield and up and over goes away , i pull over to see what has hapend and it put a ****ing huge dent on the hood of my G35 along with 4 deeep scratches and one 3 inch gash in my windshield, WTF !!!

This is the 4th time since i have been driving in 15 yrs that somthing this severe has happend to me , not counting the countless number of times you get the occasional asshole with a dump truck filled with gravel or rocks that is filled passed capacity and over flowing with rocks kicking them up in the air,

Im very upset , our tax dollars allways get collected and one of the things it does is cleaN The roads that crap, i allways see the flaps of tires all over the road , metal parts ,bumpers, rods, rockes etc... FLYING PROJECTILES FTMFL.

Not cool.and there is nobody to blame . there are over 25000 cases of this every year in florida alone, i think its bull ****.

Do you know when this stuff happens you need to pull over on the side of the road and wait for the cops or call the cops.

You then file a claim with the police. You can then go down to DOT and give them the report with an estimate to fix the car and they will cut you a check.

Since we pay taxes for the roads its their responsability to keep them clean if there is a probelm they have to fix it. You have to provide a police report righ on the spot of where the damage happened.

If you think this is bull, I filed a claim for a bent rim that happened because of a huge pot hole in the road and got my money. Also a customer of mine back in the day came to the shop after running over a huge metal object that broke his tranny and they payed to replace the tranny and payed for labor to put it in.

If you drove off you are screwed.

Andreas is right. Mike at Murray's ran over some road sign in his truck, and it sliced his gas tank open. I don't think he called the police then and there, but stopped, picked up, took pictures, and eventually got paid.

As the resident FDOT employee of the forum, I have the need to respond...

Your "tax dollar" really doesn't contribute to the overall grand scheme of things to our state road way. It's more like your "tax cents." Just ask your representative. You have no clue....

Road debri is obviously caused by the traveling public. FDOT is responsible for maintaining ALL state roads. However, it is impossible to constantly monitor the roadways for debri. Can you really pin the fault on FDOT if a motorist driving 2 minutes ahead of you happened to be the reason for the object? Can you really blame FDOT for **** dump trucks drop on our roadways? There is not enough man power and resources to make sure the roadway is clear of debri at all times.

Do you know how many lanes miles of road alone are in Broward County? That is not mentioning the fact that FDOT District 4 (my office) is responsible for all state roads from Broward County to Indian River County.

Typically, loose road debri will be picked up before you drive back by the same spot. You should actually be very thankful. Florida was actually ranked 3rd in the nation as having the best roadway system.

On a less defensive note, unless you can prove the debri that caused damage to your car was there for a long time, you have a very slim chance of recovering any funds from FDOT. Pot holes are easy to claim because 9 times out of 10, they have been there for, relatively speaking, quite some time.
