Thread: Alternator Relocation

I got this idea from some once else and then just figured out how to do it for my application. This is on a Gtir engine with using all Gtir oem brackets.

You will have to look at your brackets to see what I changed since I do not have before and after shoots.

Had to cut one of the tabs off of the alternator for it to clear the gti-r intake manifold.


Factory power steering pump bracket required some triming as well to work.




Modified the factory alternator bracket to work as well. Cut 2 of the 3 holes off and bent the tab (for adjuster bolt) over to the other side then welded.


Was able to still use the original belt as well.

Nice approach! I really like how you just cut off the extra holes on the mounts. Any clearance issues mounted in the engine bay?

Well done, I like how simple it is. Now if it was that easy to relocate the AC compressor it would be great, then we could run fancy downpipes.

Are you not worried about the gearing being different as you're now using the other wheel on the crank pulley?

I forget what the thing is called but the alt has a part that regulates the voltage. It should be fine so long as everything is snugged in place

where is the pic of the power steering bracket?

I guess key here, gotta have the VE style oil filter bracket or a relocation kit that bolts to the block (like what CS sells).

Now if only someone made a crank pulley with 1 belt run....

You can actually cut the tabs off of the oil filter housing and put shorter bolts in it so the alternator won't hit the head of the bolts. I'd still like to see this thing mounted in the bay. I think it will still be super close to the steering rack mount, you may have to beat on it some.
