Nissan MAF Wiring For Dummies
I am doing this because I get many calls about how to wire MAFs up. I want to let you guys know there is no need for having a wiring diagram. Alot of you will laugh at how easy it is.

Most Nissan MAF are 3 wire. The one that does not have 3 wires is the Z32 MAF which is four wire. I will first tackle the 3 wire MAFs.

If you peal back the harness from the plug on the 3 wire pigtails you will notice there are 2 wires that go into a grey shielded cover. Those 2 wires are always GROUND and 5 VOLT READ WIRE.

That being said, the remaining 1 wire must be the 12 VOLT POSITIVE WIRE. The 12 volt positive wire is always outside the grey sheilded cover and runs by itself.

Last rule of thumb is the NEGATIVE wire is always the center wire on the MAF Plug.

So, if you read the information up top you will now see how easy it is to wire up any Nissan 3 wire MAF

Now we will wire up our MAF.

1. We know the 12 volt wire runs outside the grey shielded cover. So find both wires that are outside the Grey sheilded cover and connect them.

2. The ground wire is always the center wire on the MAF plug, so match up both plugs, pick out the center wires and your ground wires are connected

3. This leaves 2 wire left to connect and process of illimination would say that those wires are the 5 volt read wires. ( make sure that these wires were also in the sheilded cover)

Yes it is that easy.

Color of wires are not important and this is where many people mess up as they try to match the same color wires.

I will now list the colors of the plug wires from diffrent MAFs and you will see what I mean that matching colors will mess you up.

95-99 Maxima MAF

Positive wire is RED
Negative wire is Black
5 volt read wire is white.

91-94 SER MAF

Positive wire is Orange
Negative wire is White
5 volt read wire is Orange (inside grey sheild)

95-99 200sx SER

Positive wire White with Red stripe
Negative wire White
5 volt read wire Orange

Z32 91-96 N62 MAF and 91-94 N60 MAF (Letter Below Can Be Seen On MAF) Please join C and D and now you are back to a 3 wire MAF setup.

A. Nothing goes here
B. 5 volt output read wire
C. Ground
D. Ground
E. 12 volt Positve
F. Nothing Goes here

Cobra MAF F1SZ-12B579-A ( join B and C and you are back to a 3 wire setup )

A. 12 volt wire Red
B. Ground wire Green Black
C. Ground Join to B
D. 5 volt read wire Red Blue

Pathfinder - VE MAF

5 volt White wire
Ground Wire Black
12 volt wire Black with white line

Lightning MAF

A. 12v
B. ground
C. ground
D. signal 0-5v

Thats all the MAFs I have infront of me. If there are any MAFs you want me to Post please call me with the MAF and Plug inhand and I will post it.

Good post

Do you have any idea about the GA16DE MAF? It seems to be 4 wire and a lot of people would ask how to reground it.

The GA16 MAF is completly pasay in this thread.

Now, if they want to reground their MAF. All they need to do is get a test light put the test light wire on the positive and keep trying the diffrent pins in the plug till it lights up. Walla they have found the ground wire.

If someone comes over to my house with a digital camera I could post picks of all the plugs and make it stupid simple.

real nice post.......how about the 5 wire 89-94 Maxima? I think people should know by now to strike out the 2 wires to the outmost edges and just concentrate on the middle 3...

I will stick this in a couple of days to give people more time to have more MAfs Added By Miko. After which, ALL post but the first one WILL be deleted and Tread will be locked. Also, this will be redirected to the Tech section or how to section. which ever makes more sense at the time.

Great advice, thanks!

The two wires covered in the shielded cover. Can that shield be broken at some point? I ask because I just rewired my MAF harness and had to take a section out and re-wrap them with some of the excess from the old harness. Thats there to keep RFI out?
