How To: Install NEMU Board into B13 ECU
How To: Install NEMU Board into B13 ECU

Installing the NEMU Board will require you to solder a bunch of pins and connections. If you don't have soldering experience, practice before continuing! If all else fails JKTUNING offers free installation if you send in your ECU. This is an installation guide if you decide to install the board yourself.

Please note I have the beta version of the NEMU board, your version will look slightly different.

Tools Needed
  • Soldering Iron
  • Desoldering Iron
  • Solder
  • Steady Hands and Patience

Installation Instructions
  1. First remove the top and bottom covers from the ECU. These bolts will probably be stuck, they also strip very easily. User the correct Phillips bit and a drill since your hands are not torque enough and might strip the bolts.
  2. Here is the ECU with the top cover removed. We will be installing the board into the 40 pin empty spot towards the top of the ECU.

  3. You will need to get a desoldering iron, it's worth the $20 and will save you a lot of time and prevent damage to the ECU. Desolder the 40 pins

  4. Push in the 40 pin connector

  5. Solder in the 40 pin connector

  6. You should be able to slip on the NEMU board onto the newly solderd 40 pin connector

  7. Next step is to tell the ECU to use the new daughter board instead of onboard memory. On the back of the ECU there is a jumper that you will have to unsolder move and resolder. Jumper is on CJ1, you will have to move that to CJ2.

  8. If your plug came with 4 wires, pull the right most wire out.

  9. Final soldering step is to solder three Consult wires (Consult Clock, Consult RX, Consult TX) onto the ECU pins.
Please don't pay attention to the wirecolors, they mean nothing, the location on NEMU means everything though.
    LEFT: PIN 14
    CENTER: PIN 15
    RIGHT: PIN 7

Soldering these is a pain without a long and skinny soldering tip. Be careful not to solder two ECU pins together or melt the plug.

  10. Now plug in the USB cable and zip tie it inside the ECU to a sturdy place. The diagnostic wheel should do. This will prevent you from breaking the USB port or the NEMU if you accidentally yank on the USB cable.

  11. Install the drivers, and plug it into your computer and upload a base tune.
  12. Put the ECU together, install and have fun having standalone like features in your OEM ECU!

On the actual ECU, nothing.

The only difference is that you will have to solder the 3 wires from the NEMU onto the ECU pins as described above.

This is the hardest part of the install. If you don't have very much experience soldering, it can be very tricky.

i think i understand now. the header panel is allready there but the three wires are not. so you have to add the wires and just replace the actual board since the header is allready there.

^Is that an RJ-45 port? I'd really like to see some more videos in the software. Does NismoTronic come with a base tune for you to mess around with? I plan on getting this RT package but am completely new to tuning so I would like to know what I'm doing when I get in there :P I'd really like to see some more of your videos on youtube John!

That is an RJ-45 it is used for onboard inputs to be used with the ADC breakout box.

John does ship a base tune for your setup, but as he says on the website, it's only to get you to a tuner and get it more fine tuned.

I am in the middle of reading your build thread Vadim, How have you liked the Nemu and NismoTronic? Are you still using the STI injectors? What MAF?

I love how nice and organized everything is on your threads, the pictures for everything are especially nice

You can check out some of the how to videos here.

I need to get a few more of them with the software in action on the dyno though!
