Thread: Wire under Transmission

That is definitely the neutral switch cable, and there should have been a 2 pin connector at the end of that wire. It would normally have snaked its way up top by where you have it zip tied, or maybe even straight up from the switch. I think I've routed mine both ways when I've disconnected it in the past. The connector would be right at the top of the transmission.

Since the wires have broken off, you are most likely looking for that harness I mentioned earlier on Section EL, Page 103, find the two connectors there, and follow them out PAST the connector. I'll bet that one of them is plugged in, but has the wires broken off. You should be able to unplug that one, and if there is enough wire, just solder the wires back together. It is just a switch, so the colors shouldn't matter.

If you don't have enough wire length, the easiest thing is going to be to visit your local salvage yard, take that connector with you in your pocket, find ANY 2 pin socket that it fits into correctly, and snip off the connector (not the socket!) that you need with about a foot of wire, then splice it up when you get home. You may be able to buy a connector from an auto parts store, but it's more fun going to the junk yard.

That's helps so much. When I dug in there the other day I found 2 wires (no connector) coming off of E113 (Back up Switch), which have to be the wires for E112 (Neutral Switch) just like in the diagram in EL p. 103 you provided. My confusion was that those 2 wires were different colors from the wires going to the Neutral switch. So I assumed they were not the correct wires. All other wires appear to color match at the connectors. I guess the wire colors don't have to match up on that particular switch? Also, the connector for both ends must have gotten torn off. So I will just splice the wires together hopefully this evening. Thanks so much as I think it is finally solved.

So I connected the wires tonight. Took it out for a drive and no difference in driveability. So I decided to see if the cruise control would engage while the tranny was in neutral and sure enough it did engage. Had to hit the brake pedal quickly. Is that a sign that I didn't connect the wires properly? Or that maybe the switch itself is bad? I am not sure what other function the Neutral switch would provide. I will look in the provided service manual and see if there is a way to ohm test the switch.

It is a simple switch from what I can tell, so you should either get zero or infinite ohms when checking it. I'm assuming Neutral is the closed position, but it could be the other way around.
