Clutch adjustment issue
Hi all,

So I'm having some issues with the clutch after replacing my motor. To make a long story short, I blew the motor at a Chump event in the spring. My teammates and I sourced another motor and replaced. After the swap the clutch was very low, and eventually just flat out dropped when we were testing. We figured it was the throwout bearing and pulled the trans. Sure enough, the clips were off the arms. We replaced the bearing and slapped the transmission back on. However, now we cannot adjust the clutch cable at all. Even at the farthest adjustment, the clutch pedal remains on the floor. So I'm thinking of replacing the clutch cable, possibly stretched? Any other suggestions?

Update, replaced the clutch cable, still no good. Checked the clutch arm, it's moving up and down... which it's not supposed to do. I believe that's causing the throwout bearing to come off the clip arms... and that may be our ultimate problem. So we're pulling the trans again, and will attempt to either rebuild (if possible) or reuse an arm from a spare trans we have that does not have play.

If anyone has any input, we'll gladly listen.

I would replace the clutch arm springs. They do, somewhat, limit the up/down movement of the arm also.

The issue is fixed, and I learned a valuable lesson today. And that's to use OEM parts. We ordered a Timkin throwout bearing, and reused the clips. Those were a bit stretched, and the tolerances on that bearing apparently weren't up to par. We slapped the original bearing back on, which was in workable condition, and it worked just fine. We're up and 'running' now... and I say 'running' because the motor has a knock/slap I'm unsure of. But that's for another thread.

I wonder if this is what's wrong with mine. GTi-R engine on 2002 G20, Spec 3+ clutch and Spec flywheel - we also re-used the clips and used the stupid Spec TOB. Clutch holds well but hard to shift 3rd, after a minute or so of hard driving clutch stinks and slips a little, also chatters pretty good at start of a roll (wheel visibly shakes).
