Non LSD to LSD conversion
Lets say i have a b13 LSD trans and and 97 b14 non lsd and want to transfer the lsd unit to the b14 would i have to change the gears too or are they similar? I know JGY has the LSD unit but i have to trans at home. And the B13 might have a 5th gear pop out hens forth the reason why i ask.

The cases are different from lsd to non-lsd. You should be able to out the b14 gearstack in the lsd b13 case though to rectify the 5th pop out situation.

The case there the driver side axle goes into the Trans is different. On a non LSD one that part its flatter, so the axle is longer to be able to reach the hub and transmission. The LSD transmission has a significantly swollen case where the axle goes in. Therefore using a shorter axle.

^^ Correct. As I stated earlier though, if you have both transmissions you can take the non-LSD gearstack and transplant it into the LSD b13 case.

If the 97 se-r came 5spd then it should have an LSD trans in it so make sure your not about to do work for nothing. As for swapping parts don't bother pulling gear stacks. Open up both cases and just swap the 5th gear if it's bad. The center gear stack hold the 5th gear parts that cause pop out and swapping the gear is very simple. FYI most of the time the gear is fine and all you need to do is flip the engagement collar over and 5th is fixed. The collar is brass so the teeth become worn easy, the collar is sumetrical so simply flipping it over gives you new teeth. I have done this to ten or more pop out transmissions with good results, now if the gear is also in bad shape then this fix might not do the trick. Some times the pop out comes back after a few years. Good luck.

Before I go further with this. Is the crankshaft position sensor needed?

No but on a stock ecu you will get a check engine light.
