If you look up at the link I posted I did just that and it worked 100% where all other methods (other than sledge hammer) failed

Your both wrong. Always follow the FSM it clearly states to use a Griffendor Wizard Wand with an axle removal spell. Fing amitures!

I normally leave that axle in. I just pull the tranny out and let it down, it clears fine.
That's using a lift. On the ground it would be more difficult to do.
Going back on I slide the tranny on the axle first then the input shaft into the clutch next.

For future reference, I've found that if you turn it a little bit at a time and give it a little yank each time the stubborn ones eventually come out. Same going back in.
