Nice, I like what you did with the inside mount, I think I am going to do the same, that way I can shift into reverse and not worry about it always hitting my shifter surround.

Finally found the DIY shifter mod. There is two ways of doing it, either using a clevis pin or tapping and using a bolt.
$9 Spec V/Maxima short shifter - MotoIQ - MotoIQ - Forums - Technical Area, motoIQ is about geeks and for geeks, here ya go, a geeks playground - Maintenance, Repairs, DIY, Low Buck Mods

Or the 5/16" clevis pin mod

Also Looks like there are ES shifter bushings (ES 7.1115) available, but they are for the Maxima with rear lockout, thus they don't look like they will fit on inside cabin linkages.

My first thought was to drill and tap, but with limited space this was the easier route. There is more room in a B15 to drill and tap, but a B13 is a little more cramped. It would've been far easier to do that with the trans out, so for the guys yet to install their specv trans I'd reccomend doing it now.

I used a 1-1/8" hole saw to cut my HDPE bushings out, then redrilled the hole to the appropriate size, and sanded the outside down to 22mm width. It took about 10 min for each bushing that way, and there's only three to make.

Did the short throw shifter mod today. Took about 30 min with all the monkeying around.

I could barely get the drill in, but was able to still drill a straight enough of a hole.

As you can see I went back to stock bushings too, I wanted the cable to have a little less tension so it was less prone to ripping. This mod costs $3 in parts, some drill bits and a cut off wheel. Results are fantastic, even with stock bushings!

Cool man, nice job. So you're not gonna make any stiff bushings? They give you a much more connected feel to the trans..

I wasn't going to until I drove it cold to work today, shifting into first and reverse you can feel the bushing stretching. You technically only need one to two bushings, for the forward and backwards shifter cable. The cable that does left to right movement doesn't seem to be affected by the soft bushings.

I did all three because they were all sloppy feeling. i have an 03 shifter so its well broke in. left to right still has some play but itss improved with the bushing.

I went back to metal bushing but only for the shifting arm that I just redrilled. It's back to being more precise, and doesn't feel like your squishing a mouse every time you shift.

I do think there is something not right with my shifting setup, there is a slight stop before it goes into gear. I just acquired a parts Spec V, though with 200k miles, and it goes in and out of gears very easily, could be that it's so worn in by now :-D

Has anyone else noticed the FSM says the check ball plugs are not reusable ?

I wonder about this one, they also say you can't reuse the bolt that holds the check balls in(perhaps stretch to fit?) I think the FSM says this to avoid liability of Nissan Tech's are too lazy to properly make sure all items are in good working order.

Only problem that I see with the DIY mod Vadim is that you're losing all your leverage and the shifter will be much stiffer.
