Just a question for you guys doing the shifter box assembly. whats the red thing towards the left of the shifter mounted on the housing and is it needed? Some are also green.

That's a shifter restrictor, there is also a piece of metal above it on the bottom side. It's to keep you from either over shifting (pushing the shifter too far in one direction).

Its a reverse gear lockout. Some shifters have them and others dont. Depends what vehicle you got it from. My altima shifter assembly doesnt have it. Wish mine had it cuz ive grinded the crap out of reverse trying to find 6th.

Oh weird, mine is a definite feel for reverse, I have to push it way far right to get to it. Getting into 6th's is as easy as just pulling the shifter straight down.

Yeah but go too far over with my shifter and it will skip over to reverse and grind. Lol. The lockout prevents that.

Weird. Now what are the advantages of the Altima shifter over Spec V one? Is the shifter it self taller? My spec one is a little too short, would be perfect in the B15 but too short for p11.

I am in the same boat on my P11 with the 6-speed swap.

I dont think there is any advantage to it over the spec V one. Just what was available in my area when I did the swap. No specs in the junk yard but several altimas. So I went with that....Only difference was that the 5 speed shifters do not have a reverse lockout mechanism like the 6 speed shifters do.
