One thing to add is the locking clips for that hold the cables on the cable bracket on the trans are the same. I was scrounging through a yard trying to find mine originally because the trans was already taken out of the altima that i got my shifter and cables from and they threw everything in the dirt. I only found one. I ordered 2 from greg and used those and they were both identical. Worked perfectly. Awesome writeup man.

As for your question about the C-clip SR20DET91, did you already bolt the case down to the bell housing? If so Its probably pushing against the clip not allowing it to go in. I think your supposed to lock that clip on the stack before bolting down the case fully to allow movement of the stacks to get it back in. If everything is shimmed up correctly then there is no reason it should be difficult. Coheed can probably chime in on it as he has done it twice now.

Yea, its already bolted up. In the FSM it says to put the clip inside the groove in the case rather than attaching it on the bearing 1st. I dunno just one of those PITA things.

I was spreading the clip as i was sliding the case over so there was no resistance on it. Like i said its just right there, within a 16th. Im about to go mess with it some more

You have to bolt the trans all together and when the cases are bolted together you have to flip the trans and slightly *DROP* the trans on that end. Dont drop it from more than 6" and make sure you don't overdo it. But if you can't get that snap ring to seat, you have to make sure it is spread over the shaft, and just about when it is almost ready to slide into the groove... flip the trans (flywheel side up) and slightly drop it on the ground until it snaps into place.

Having torn this trans apart 4 times, I think I got all the kinks worked out.

Try that and see if it works for ya. Just don't break anything lol.

Here is a pic I found of the MR transmission 6 speed. Looks like an RS6 trans to me. And the weakest link comes with 4th gear. You can see it is smaller. But on a FWD, I can see this holding up a lot better than the AWD guys.

I used a "Z" shaped peice of metal rod to hook under the bearing and lift the gearset slightly so the snap ring clipped in.

Did you get a picture (maybe i missed it in the first thread?) where/how much you had to grind to fit it in?

i'm pretty sure there's a multitude of cars that use this trans. the bellhousing just changes.

The Evo has opened up options for the aftermarket for us too. Since EVO guys are modding the MR, there are gears made from billet that swap right in to strengthen 3-5 gears.
