A properly bolted on DE has a ton of potential.
My very first SE-R was a 91 with sunroof.
I had a JDM 9.5:1 motor, Short ram intake, SSAC 2 1/4" header (all they had back then), 2 1/2" full exhaust gutted cat, JUN ultralightweight flywheel, ACT clutch, UR 2 piece pulley set, JWT S3 cams (S4's wernt out yet back then), timing set to 19*, stock ecu and in a basicly full interior b13 with no a/c in the bay and no spare tire or jack i went 14.3@97mph on street tires. Car weighed 2340 lbs.
I think a fully gutted B13 down to 2100 lbs or less with a 10:1 motor, pullies, short ram, SSAC 2 1/2" header, 2 1/2" or bigger exhaust, S5 cams or larger, S&R's, flywheel, clutch, and timing set accordingly you should have no problem at all going high 13's on street tires and low to mid 13's on slicks fairly easily.
I loved my bolted on DE. Of course ve's will make more power and probably be less costly as far as hp/dollar goes but hey why not if you have a good fresh motor to work with.
Give it a shot and see what happens.
