Thread: Slicks and extended studs?

I just got some 23/8/13 MH slicks on some gold lensos. They fit awesome and hook up even better.

My question is me having a FWD car am i required to have extended studs to run on the track with slicks?

I tried searching, no real answer. Anyone with a NHRA rulebook please help.

Also what PSI range should i run these at?

i dont see why you would need longer wheel studs if you are using all the threads on the lugnuts

Yes, at a NHRA track. Anything on track slicks are required on extended studs.

ya its so they can check to see if you have all four lugs and that dont have a lug nut glued in........true story.

Why in the world would you want to glue a lug nut in

To pass inspection. Although sounds like this rule accomplishes nothing, as I could glue on a open lugnut and broken wheel stud just as easily.

What about those with extended wheel studs and closed lug nuts? Seems like the rule should at least read "open lug nuts required" not "extended studs required" since they are concerned about making sure there is a wheel stud there. What about cars with wheel bolts (BMWs)?

So as long as the stud comes threw the lug is it fine? Or as long as you can see the stud threw the lug nut?

Cars with wheel studs must have open faced lug nuts, and extended wheel studs. (NHRA guideline) It's a safety issue of serious importance. I know even if it WASN'T required, I'd sure as hell do it. Would you want to trap 120mph and have a wheel fly off, sending you into the wall?

Lenso's on our cars should DEFINITELY have extended wheel studs. You're only on the OEM wheel studs by about 3~5 threads with open face lug nuts, if that.

Look around for the picture I posted, that's with the wheel bolted all the way to the hub, no spacers.

Primary purpose is way back when 50's, 60's. The slicks would sheer off the wheel studs during a burn out or a launch and loose a wheel turning the car 90* into the crowd or other car.
