The inevitable question: Where's next year?
I'm positive you guys talked about it last weekend. Any ideas just yet? I am scheduled to PCS in June '14. Depending on timeframe, may be too close for me to go.

Not really sure Cliff. My guess is it will back up North.

Tracks to consider would be New Jersey Motorsports Park, Summit Point, Nelson Ledges, New Hampshire Motor Speedway?

It's the same old issue. We gonna need to piggyback on another group for the track rental. Otherwise, somebody(s) is gonna have to front the track rental fee, like Joe did this year. It wasn't until we got donations and raffle money the last minute, that Joe wasn't sweating it. With that said, if we take the piggy-back approach, we'll have to wait to see what the 2014 track schedules look like (late winter?)

I have to be honest, it was a little disconserting to see all those people at the picnic and not have a majority donating. I think I had 75 officially signed up. Of those, 35 people donated. 3 of which, paid enough to cover 30 people...thank gawd. I'm not sure what the official head count was, but it was way over a 100. I would have like to have seen people at least cover what they were taking ($10). I only had 2 people that handed me cash the day of. So basically, there were 70+ people that attended and took the "free" approach. Granted, there were lots of people that participated in the raffle, which I believe put Joe in the black. But still, if that trend continues, we'll be forced to change our approach to how we run this. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Seriously?! That's depressing.

How could anybody eat food and drink canned sodas and even believe it's supposed to be free?!?

That makes me kinda sad.

Well, we did tell people that it didn't cost anything to attend. I guess we were giving people too much credit with regards to understanding what we were trying to acheive. They did dig deep for the raffle, though. I think there's a lesson in there somewhere.

Perhaps for 2014, it can be free to attend but we can require money if people want a meal?

In the past conventions there always was a food ticket people can purchase. For 2012 Rob and I decided to not charge for the picnic as a thank you to everybody for coming. The raffles and donations more then paid for the picnic.

Was there an issue regarding the picnic for 2013?

Gloria said about 7-10 people gave her picnic money, plus G Spec gave $100. She counted 115 heads during the raffle when she had a chance. Most of the money we got at the end came from raffle tickets. And to my surprise we had multiple people who bought 100 tickets for $100. At the end there was not an issue and I about broke even, but the raffle was the kicker. The raffle should put us up at the end of the convention, not barely breaking even.

I think next time (if ever) I host a convention, picnic tickets will be sold. A fair price for the picnic would be for $10 a person, $15 a couple, or $20 a family since kids don't eat a whole lot anyways.

The big difference being the affordable open track day at Nelson Ledges. This in my opinion makes Ohio a great place to hit in a regular rotation. Not having to pay for our own day is a huge stress relief. The last couple spots we sold to local Atlanta guys and friends of friends @Fatboyse-r saved our butt.

Thanks to all who reached out

We're fortunate that Mark has lived everywhere at least once....lol

I agree. NL is a perfect fit for us. All we needed was a more tolerate hotel in 2012 and that would have been the perfect convention receipe. I think one of the qualifing questions for the hotel in 2014 would be, "can we move the lobby couches outside under the canopy?"

That sounds like a good idea.

Not to discredit Greg, but I donated $100 on his behalf for a gspec voucher.

At any rate, no free meal tickets! Coughing up $10 is chump change in the grand scheme of the weekend events. Shit they would pay that if they wanted to eat elsewhere! Cheap bastards...
