Of course, as it's been mentioned before, tagging onto a club event offers us now flexibility in our schedule and we wouldn't know the event date until early in 2013. Both FATT and COM SCC offer multiple dates at the same track which gives us some flexibility, but again, we wouldn't know the date until early 2013. IS that even an option? Can we afford to not make plans until eaarly 2013?

Nelson Ledges is looking better by the minute ;-)

FATT days are really popular. We'd have to get people to sign up/pay early to lock it in. They do require instructors in the car for people that haven't gotten prior sign off. They treat it more like a driving school than a test day. Because of the instructor requirement, there's a limit to how many can participate. We can talk to them about a group rate. My guess is an upfront deposit would be needed to lock in x number of slots. They usually have a test & tune run group for folks with comp licenses...open passing etc. If there's a sanctioned race that weekend, you'll get a pretty big turnout for that run group. Not trying to knock it, letting everyone know the scoop, since I've been involved in FATT.

I remember at the chicago convention a few bmw's owner showed up at Autobahn, damn we showed them. E36 m3 had no option but to let me pass. Wes showed the m5's who's boss. We had a blast that track day. One of my favorite roadcourse days of the conventions besides Pocono. Robeling was a blast also on the front straight but I had to take it easy.

To those on the track committee:

I would have liked to talk to you guys first, but didn't get the opportunity, I thank you for your work in looking for tracks for 2013. The guys that put together the last 2 years and myself really feel teh most important thing is to keep the momentum moving. With that in mind we want to go back to Savannah next year. I don't want any bad feelings among our core group and I didn't want you guys to feel like you efforts were in vain. The demographics we got from the surveys told us east coast and since Savannah in '09 was such a hit it moved to the top of the short list.

Savannah is fine by me. To be completely honest I have been absolutely buried at work and home. I haven't had a moment to devote to the track search.

okay.

This doesn't really surprise me and sounded like the direction you wanted to take from the beginning.

Enjoy and have fun!

Are you planning on doing our own day, or tagging on to someone elses?

We are looking at both options right now. Our group would be larger than most local track events at Roebling, as they are usually around 25-30 cars and hence $250 or so per driver.

The total cost including insurance is just under $7000 for our own day. Since we ran an event with them in 2009, we don't have to put up a big deposit to secure a date. To be able to keep the price at $175, we need 40 participants. In 2009 we had close to 60 cars on track, so 47 is a realistic target and gets the price to $150 each.

Nothing in stone as of yet

Where are you going to get the deposit money? I'd be willing to pre-pay all or part of my track day cost up front to help. I'm sure there are others that'd do the same.
