BR/PittRace would be cool, but they want Putnam money for a rental.

The key is going to be that we have no budget to speak of, and need to piggy-back on an HPDE, or find a track to do an arrive and drive. We don't necessarily need instructors.

As biased as I am about keeping it in Ohio, and as much as my car loves the short trip (hehe)... I don't know how the entire community body would roll with that. I think it's good to move around and keep things fresh. Regardless of where we do it it will be a good time.

Based on past convention attendance, what were the big ones? DC, PA? How large was Savanah or Chicago? I wasn't able to make those. How about Alabama's attendance? CT was put together in 3 weeks and probably had around 60 attendees. OH was well over 100 with the majority of the attendees coming from the east coast, CT, NY, & PA. Of course there were a dozen OH attendees too.

Perhaps some sort of poll on the main forum would help?

I remember Chicago being pretty nice and I thought we had a good turnout... maybe around the same as Ohio? (someone double check me)... Albeit I still remember people complaining saying "It wasn't as big as last year". I can't speak for GA, as I couldn't attend.

We rent Putnam every year for the LSB Bike Track day and I always remember it being fairly decent on price maybe around $150-175. In fact my Cincinnati Base Motorcycle Group (AssfaultJunkies) Is renting the track for ourselves only and the rate we are doing is $165 (goes up this week) and this is for September 1st, 2012. This includes EMT and all that chit. I can also get a list of the schedule for next year to see if we can share a day with another car group.

That is if IN is an option... it's a bit away from the east coast...

The Beav is a possibility but it's probably too expensive and would require $$ up front which we do not have. Honestly, most tracks in the NE are too expensive :-) I'd love to have it in my back yard at NJMP but there is no way. Same goes for Pocono, Watkin's Glen, VIR, Summit Point main, Lime Rock, etc., etc. Anything within a 2 hour driving distance of NYC is for rich folk :-)

I have 2 friends that run their own track day events (one of them at Putnam) that I need to reach out to and get some feedback from them also.

I agree. We need to keep it fresh. Besides the actual convention, I think people take the opportunity to get to know another place they possibly haven't been to.

okay.

A few more questions,

Is the 'track day' only a Friday thing? Or has it just been a Friday thing because of how much cheaper pricing is on a Friday vs. saturday or sunday? Is a Thursday or a Monday a possibility or does that detract too much from tradition?

I know there are groups that often rent Grattan and Gingerman because of how inexpensive they are and I often hear that 'break even' is 35 people at about $150 so it does seem doable for Grattan or Gingerman provided you are okay without an ambulance or tow truck for the day.

Did you guys piggy back with another group at Nelsen Ledges this year or other years? How did you get around the required deposit or did you get people to pay ahead of time enough to make that deposit prior to the convention?

There was no deposit. Rob squared away the PAYG method for Nelson. Track days have historically been on Friday. Saturday has historically been free day to sightsee, or drag day for the drag racers. Sunday is picnic or leave day for folks that have to work Monday.

Nelson has what they call Friday Fun Days, which is just an open track day for anyone who shows up, no upfront money, and no commitment required. I think the normal price is $130, and they cut us break for $100 once we hit 10 paid participants.

^ that is a damn sweet deal. I think Gingerman does some open friday's like that as well but I'm not sure Gateway would do that/does do that.

So are you going to do a 'vote' to see if people would go back to Nelsen Ledges again or do you want to change venues for sure?
