I'm hoping it involves the words of "i screwed up" or "that is my fault". Unless there is something egregious that we've all overlooked or don't know about, I'm unsure how any other response makes sense.

Shit happens - trust me, I run a shop now that's been around for over 50 years in our family - and we NEVER accept payment nor release something like this. It would be the equivalent of me booking a job of swapping a transmission in a truck, my brother putting the wrong one in, my Dad driving it and knowing it's wrong but saying it's ok as it works but isn't how it was, my other brother dropping it off at the truck stop to get picked up, all while my Uncle accepting credit card payment over the phone...

Sure we could blame my brother for putting it in wrong, but you'd also have to blame myself for not keeping on top of the job, my dad for not saying anything, and my uncle for taking the money and running, and then offering no solution as to how it happened.

I run a large transportation shop as well and I agree. My shop would have never put out work like this. I may not have done the work, but I am responsible for the work that leaves the shop. This isn't good work. There are several things wrong looking at the pics, down to the poor solder joint on the A/C clutch wire.

Saying that, I have done several transactions with March tuning and never had an issue. Mark has always taken care of my parts needs and answering a shit load of questions.

Shawn was up front with Merliss from the get go, and told them numerous time that he wanted it done properly, to a professional standard. Merliss is WELL aware that Shawn is a high maintenance guy, and accepted the job.

Now are you trying to tell us that you'd be cool with dropping that kind of money, and getting a car back with no, as in zero PCV system? Both ports open to the atmosphere? And not just once, but twice?

They were under NO time limit after the convention ended. Shawn got the call after Merliss and company decided the job was done to the best of thier ability.

Shawn was not presented with an US and THEM build. He dealt directly with Merliss, as a partner in Marsh Tuning. Merliss (as Marsh Tuning) accepted the job.

He's the damn customer. The shop which he paid thousands of dollars in labor to, had the car for months, and they left the engine bay no better than it would have been if an 18 year old noob had slapped it together.

There were at least two temperature sensors in the package that Merliss recieved. It takes 3 seconds to look at the temperature range stamped on the sensor to know if it's the correct one for the gauge, and even if you don't take the time to check it, Shawn TOLD them the car was running too cool. Even with the sensor in the car, I was able to read the stamping, and knew it was wrong. Obviously nobody looked at it the first time, or after the customer raised the issue. You'd be ok with that if you paid for the job to be done properly?

Really? You're mocking him for expecting the AC to work?

The compressor and o-rings were replaced, and the A/C was recharged. Then it all leaked out as we drove south. My bet is they either over tightend the fitting, or pinched an o-ring. This would have been discovered had they shook the car down as he asked them to do numerous times.

Shawn has no point of reference, having never driven a turbo car for an extended period of time. I have, and I know when it's right. This tune was so far from right, it ain't funny. Any throttle over 20% slammed the AFR gauge to 10:1, so it was pig rich in boost. I wouldn't be surprised it the actual AFR was more like 8:1

Boost did not come on smoothly, and the car just didn't have any kind of eager feeling to it, to the point where I had zero desire to get on it. I drove the entire 2,000 miles, including the Tail of the Dragon both ways, and with all the 5 and 10 mph turns, I only downshifted to second maybe three times, that's how much I didn't want to ring the car out. If this were my NX or SE-R when they were boosted, I would have been roasting the tires out of every hairpin. I may have chirped the tire once on the entire trip, when pulling away from a stop sign. That's fucking pathetic.

Jamie is in full agreement that the tune needs to be worked on.

Jamie didn't build it, and any of us, and I assume you as well, would have taken enough pride in our work to not have such a shabby, sloppy engine bay. I've done a few turbo B chassis installations for people, and you can be damn sure every zip tie was facing in the same direction, and there were no open PCV ports, or nuts and bolts missing from the engine bay.

How can someone represent their shop as a professional establishment, take someone's money, and give them this kind of shit?

I guaran damn tee you, that you wouldn't be cool with it if you had laid that kind of money down.

How can a gasoline engine operate at an 8:1 mixture? The car would not be able to physically move.

Even at 10:1 the car at a low RPM would completely fall on its face.

I understand the point you are getting across, and as explained in our phone conversation, the conditions you describe are totally different than when Shawn and I took our drive.

A physically failure or issue with management/sensors and or ECU core is likely. We are dealing with 20+ year old hardware here, let's be realistic. This is not rocket science, I've done more tuning/building/development on this platform than anyone in this thread. Most of the guys in this thread I've tuned, Mark S., you Chris (on multiple occasions) Joe S., the list is a mile long. How do these cars drive/perform? Why would less "effort" go into Shawns? Shawn is a friend, who is very particular. Things like part throttle and idle are KEY for him. The first thing he described was how he did not need to blip the throttle coming to a stop anymore and the smooth transition into boost etc.

If the car has a tuning issue, regardless of when it started, lets fix it. Starting with the possibility of hardware issues and a remote tuning/log session. When we talk about tuning and the performance of this car, Please go into a discussion with an open brain as opposed to emotion.

That's the key point right there.

And you can bet Shawn and I were racking our brains for 2,000 miles trying to square the fact that we both know you can tune, yet the car (at the time we were driving it) was FAR from tuned properly. Anybody would have said so.

The wideband read 10:1 under anything above 20% (or above light load to say it another way). Was the actual AFR 10:1? I have no way of knowing.

I also meant to address the off throttle performance, but neglected to in my previous posts. Merliss and I had a nice conversation a day or two before I flew to Connecticut, and he explained to me that there was a bit of an issue on decel, but you could 'drive around it'. When I proposed that it may have something to do with fuel cut on decel, he didn't know if that was it or not. Which is fine. He's not the tuner. He just wanted to make me aware of it, and give me a heads up, since Shawn had mentioned that the car stumbled on decel. We both agreed that the first time you drive one of these cars boosted, it takes a little fine tuning to get your brain and right foot in sync with the turbo. Again, no problem. I told Mark that I'd talk Shawn down from the ledge on the issue, and all would be fine.

And Jamie, you and I talked after the trip, and I explained to you that my original thought about the car not going into fuel cut on decel seemed to be correct. Although you said it is implemented in the tune, for some reason it's not happening. It's simple enough to observe: within a few seconds of taking your foot off the gas (in gear), as the car begins to coast down, the wideband should go lean and then full lean (three dashes on the AEM), since the injectors are shut off. Once the car slows down enough to put a load on the engine, the injectors turn back on, so the car doesn't stall. I know this is tuning 101, and you're well versed on the topic, I'm only explaining it here for others, and to make a point.

I hope your thought about something having physically changed or broken is true, and that it's an easy fix.

Also, thanks for taking the time to talk the situation through with me on the phone, it means a lot to me, and if there's anything I can do to help, I'm happy to pitch in.

Shawn is my friend, and so are you. I just want to see him made whole here. His spirit was crushed on the trip down south. We went into this thing hoping to have a happy little road trip / adventure, and instead just kept asking each other "how the hell did this happen".

I also disagree with the comment on the post "changing the community's view of Marsh Tuning".

I think it will open their eyes to the pieces of the transactions and the inner working pieces, but not the "view" of what the name represents.

What changes? People not coming to me for tuning? Not coming to me for advise? Won't happen.

I am here to help people, mainly friends in the community. This is not a money making thing, it's a moral thing. I could have easily washed my hands and moved forward having NO financial gains in the transaction, but I did not for multiple reasons.

Does not matter what "view" is perceived based on the input from others. Shawn is not happy and my focus is helping him get where he wants to be. We talked more in the last month than we have in the last year, I'm sure it will work itself out without the input of anyone else.

I have nothing but respect for you Chris, this is just me speaking openly.

I am so sorry to hear about this, Shawn. I hope this gets squared away soon and your car is once again what you are looking for. The most telling thing to me in all that has been written is on two occasions in their replies to you and then once more in this thread was that you asked them for something unrealistic - An OEM-like boosted VE car. So they did the best they could to meet an unrealistic goal. This to me is the crux of the problem. If you asked them for something unrealistic, they should have told you that up front. Period. What you're asking is not possible. Now, I have no clue if it is or not, but clearly the shop felt they could not achieve what you asked. I have never met you, Shawn, nor have I worked on your car or done business with you. But I have read your threads. If you had asked me to do work on your car, and had just dropped it off saying "put a turbo on it" and said nothing more, based on your threads I would have known what your expectations would be with regards to the finished product. No further explanation necessary. Not that I could do any of it, but your reputation and demands are crystal clear. And anybody who takes your car should know that too. Best of luck and I look forward to reading about your fantastic turbo'd VE soon!

Disagree entirely. Shawn's reference to OEM or OEM+ is in terms of functionality and operation. Something that is easy achievable with the litany of parts and tuning solutions made available to use mere mortals............even more show a shop which has experience in building exactly what Shawn requested (or well, so we thought!!!!!)

"They" produced an extremely subpar product at best. A product that does not represent the true value of what Shawn spent, the quality of parts purchased and the "simplicity" of the build.

A fire breathing 4wd, 800 AWHP B13 with a full cage that runs down GT1 Corvettes and runs low 8s with AC, power steering, power windows and kitchen maid handing out tickle me blowjobs is one thing.

A setup which is readily available from Nissan HQ (Sr20VET or similar) is an entirely achievable feat.

Simply put, with a seemingly unlimited (10K is unlimited in terms of B chassis owners in retrospect) budget and time, this is utter shit!

Maybe is best to advice your entourage/fan girls to throttle back on trying to "defend" you, when in reality are making u look worse.
Just my 0.02 and I really hope both parties reach an agreement.

I don't think I was clear. It is apparent from their responses that they didn't think it was possible to achieve both goals. I am not in a position to evaluate the feasibility of the work because I'm a very novice mechanic, but based on builds I have seen on here, it seems very possible. BUT, since the shop didn't think they could pull it off, they should NOT have accepted the work. Shawn could then take it to someone who would be able to do it. I agree with you completely.
