Then he said he would pay the amount. So the next day I brought the header and the box, gave my information of where it was going to, paid, and left. That was it.
This is still not clear.

You bought the box from them.
You left with the box & header.
You returned with the box & header.

Nothing is mentioned about packing material.

If the in-transit damage is substantial, and was related to packaging, WHO is responsible? WHO packaged it.

The way I read it, you bought an empty box from the UPS store, packed it yourself, and then returned to the store with a sealed box, and shipped it.

Ok I'll explain. I think it was a Wednesday, I went to the UPS store with the header. I handed it to them, they measured it/weighed it and grabbed a box and looked up how much it would be. I texted OP the amount and he said that was too much and he wanted me to try FedEx instead. Since the box was enormous and $12 or something I decided I'd buy the box just in case USPS or FedEx were cheaper so I didn't have to find another one. I leave with empty box and header. OP texts me again 20-30 min later an says nevermind just send it from UPS. I say I already left UPS and it's probably closed by now. He flips and accuses me of scamming him and that I wasn't going to send it. This was the first clue the guy is unstable. So then the next day, probably a Thursday, I return with the header and the box. I put them on the counter. Employee puts header in box and weighs it, I am given the same quote as I was day before minus the $12 for the box since I purchased it already. I was under the impression that since it was the same price they were going to handle everything. OP still undercut the shipping cost by $24 but I was tired of hauling this stuff around so I said the heck with it and paid it. When I left the box was open with the header inside it. That's all I can tell you. UPS then lost the box for 2 days somewhere in CA. I argued with UPS on OP's behalf for an hour that day and then again yesterday.

if that's the case, why don't you take the time to contact UPS and inform them that that's the way their staff packaged it??

So the UPS store *PACKED* it. It would seem to me that if the claim is for significant damage in shipping, then they should be on the hook for it. However, if it was damaged before shipping, they're going to tell you to pound salt. Similar to having someone back in to your already crunched fender.

And guys, let's stop with the personal attacks/jabs/insults please. It's not helping anyone.

let's not forget, that partial of the damage was done before it was shipped and that he didn't made me aware of that..

I argued with them on the phone for about a hour yesterday trying to figure out what the heck happened. Also, the couple dings or knicks weren't that bad so I think they probably didn't see much of a damage claim. It's a tough thing when it's a car part like this, not many people know what to look for, sure they can see a dent, but if it was a porcelain vase broken in 20 pieces or something it would be very obvious. So the UPS rep told me they won't cover it because it wasn't packaged properly. I told her that I physically brought/sent it from an actual UPS store, with the actual box the UPS employee gave me, and I paid the same price I was quoted (minus the $12 box) when I brought in solely the header. It's possible now that I think of it, the employee mistakenly charged me for the box a second time by accident instead of for packing materials they would later insert, or it's possible the employee assumed because I brought in the empty box and the item without stuff already in it it that I wanted it sent that way. Of course I argued all of this to the UPS rep on the phone, seemed to fall on deaf ears. She let me officially dispute their decision and said they would contact me by the next business day, but I never heard anything from them. Of course now I wish I had verified that I was being charged that amount because they would throw in their little packing peanuts or whatever. Also at that point I was already out $24 for shipping from my own pocket, and OP made it clear he wasn't willing to spend anymore money on shipping so I just wanted to pay for it and get the heck outta there. At that point he was basically saying he thought I was trying to scam him anyway, and then I send him a photo of the receipt and he goes "why does it say it weighs 99 pounds??!" and basically accused me of trying to rip him off that way too.. But I think me buying the box first and returning with it the next day seems to be what caused the confusion w/ the shipping issue.

I dunno Jordan, assuming they would package it or remembered you from the previous interaction is a stretch. I know you are a stand up guy and shit, but if you didnt physically ask for them to pack it when you came back and just handed them a box and the header (or the header in the box) and left.....i think you are still on the hook or poor packaging =\

You need to get that crazy broad out of your head man, she's fucking up your part out swag
