placed this ad, here, on Gnet, Fs: Pulsar Gti-r motor in NJ ...cheap must go!!

I sent a gift amount (stupid and last mistake) of $250 to secure the engine and paid the rest upon pickup. I picked this engine up 5/5/2012.

Took it home, gave it a leak down test, and cylinder 1 had 100% leakage. Cylinder four had some weird grit all over the place and I got mixed results of leakage. (cyl 2 and 3 were under 20% leakage I think)

I was unable to speak to him via telephone until 5/15/2012. I found out one was blown, here is the damage.





















Here you can see where the rocker would rest, is chipped.


Look at the crush washer.


Well crushed washer and clean.


And the crank pulley was separated and could not be reused.
















Which was promptley replaced with a brand new, Gti-R OEM crank pulley.








And to top it off, all flywheel bolts gone and since they are Gti-R specific, I order a set of brand new, OEM Gti-R flywheel bolts.


I found this thread which is eerily similar but the engine I have is completely stock and full of stupid.

Now, where I left off. I first spoke to him and brought up these problems on 5/15/2012. He said he would call the person he got the engine from and ask him about it.

By the 19th of May, he had all of these pictures to judge, and decide what to do. I still wanted the engine and only wanted him to pay for the crank pulley and flywheel bolts. I think that would be fair for both parties. I paid $280 for those pieces and when I asked him to pay for it, I was told in a few cursory words, to take a hike.

I think that is unfair, he is unreasonable and committed knowingly or not, fraud. This engine is clearly blown and something bad happened to it and it was not at all advertised like it is.

Yes, I took delivery of the thing and that can be my fault for trusting an incapable person.

I am going to make the best of it, this I can assure you.

Sad to see this man... I have a gtir layin around if you need good parts

I am gonna get the bore cleaned up and see what I can do from there.

I already received a replacement OEM Crank Pulley and Flywheel bolts. (no thanks to Cuddy) I want to do high comp SR16VE non-N1 pistons if I can keep stock bore.

Do people normally tear down an engine and give it a leak down test upon pick-up at the Sellers shop, garage, or house? Hypothetically, would someone do that at Andreas Miko's shop when picking up a motor? Or do folks take a look at the exterior of the motor, maybe peek under the valve cover, and take it home?

Depends on who we are dealing with. Since I chose someone unsavory, I asked to have the valve cover pulled, intake manifold, and I spun the engine over. It is clean under the valve cover and it spun over. I could see oil in cylinder one which was a huge red flag but I took the chance anyway knowing one was probably blown. I did NOT see the crank pulley at the time of pickup and he said the flywheel bolts were long gone. At the time, I did not have an air tank to use my leak down tester with. I tried faith for one last time. I had the intent of breaking this engine entirely apart to build one anyway but that is besides the fact.

I ask because I have never heard of anyone doing a leakdown test, nor completely dis-assembling a motor while picking one up. Ie...that is not normal operating procedure when someone states a motor is good.

That motor was definitely NOT "running fine" when removed from the previous chassis. I don't know shit, and I can tell you that with 100% certainty. The kid flat-out lied.

This is pure nonsense! There is no way in HELL that motor was running fine with 100% leakdown on one of the cylinders. He is either lying or he just didn't know the true state of the motor. Which is fine, if you don't know the true state of the motor then list that in the add. *Buyer assumes all risk as motor is in unknown state*. If an honest mistake was made, man the F*CK up and atleast work out a deal.

Viprdude, you are being fair and classy about the whole situation. The seller needs to do the right thing and take some of the responsibility for this.

P.S. Everybody makes mistakes as clearly nobody is perfect but it isn't the mistake that defines a seller/mechanic/vendor etc. It is the way in which he chooses to repond to the mistake once it is brought to his attention.

I would never want my reputation to be at risk over a couple hundred bucks! SMDH!!!!!!!!!!
