It's always going to be "buyer beware" over the internet, but I personally don't see more fraud here than other forums.

Everyone must think on their own. The fact that Overkill wanted to copy parts killed it for me personally, but I didn't want to chime in to add to the "pitchfork" mentality:

...Another part of the "ongoing thing" that happens here is the pitchfork mentality. Once someone is deemed wrong everyone grabs their pitchforks and beats it to shit usually meaning lots of insults and shawn B threatening to beat someone up. Gets kinda old but idk....

This is the exact opposite problem than the earlier one. Too much good will...not enough good will. Pick one!

If you keep up with the threads, you will see that the pitchfork mentality came in way late in the game, only after there was considerable evidence against them.

Same with JGY, same with SR20 Dev... I don't see a problem. Maybe someone can point out a decent vendor we ran off because they were unnecessarily harassed. I can't think of one, but I could be wrong.

Just so we can learn from things, what do you think works over at G20.net? (I'm assuming you G20 guys think that things are run right there.) It'd be good for us to discuss what is working, and what is not working. (Although there is a danger in comparing your "home" forum to your "away" forum)

Let me reiterate what I said so that those who did not fully understand what I meant, or my "tone", could see where I'm coming from.

This is not a difficult community to serve, all you have to do is what you say you are doing, and if something goes wrong fix it in a timely manor and everyone is fine.

The situation is what it is, but I prefer this forum to the other forums that had members get ripped off, and no one felt it necessary to act. Or ones that ban outright, prematurely.

---

As for people here being 'cheap' (if that's part of your indictment), it's the nature of the car. Sure Hondas, 240s and BMWs sell for way more on forums, but a lot of those people are gullible with too much disposable money.

When 'cheap' starts to affect the preference of Chinese knock-offs over innovation, that's when it starts to bother me. But I don't see that as a problem that afflicts this forum more than others.

The best thing about this forum (as opposed to the old one) is the sense of comradery without the old-timer snobbery. A noob here can search, learn, start posting sensibly, and fit in just as easily as someone with 1,000 posts. This is a welcoming environment for those who demonstrate good intentions.

Witch hunts happen on forums, but at least here, it takes quite a bit of wrong-doing to oust someone completely.

I am sure he will pop back in here and straighten it out.

I'm sorry to say, but this thread sums up "the dash" for me.

Coming from a forum where I know most everyone, and chat with the majority of them on a daily basis, I was quite surprised to see the outcome of OEM. I will say it now, while I didn't before, I didn't like OEM's business practices. Joe had A LOT of weight on his shoulders putting his reputation in the hands of OEM's by trusting them and giving confidence to other forum members. It really sucks to see things play out the way they did and putting Joe in an "awkward" situation in the end, with OEM. I didn't see that coming. Props to Joe for his efforts.

Seems like this is an on-going thing with this forum. I hope everything get's squared away.

I haven't been greatly active in many other forums besides Gnet, The Dash, and the old forum. Being that I don't have experience with other forums, I really only see the drama this forum seems to get into. There have been so many bad group buys and so many "scams" that it's scary. I guess if it's normal, which it probably is, I'm just new to the idea. It really makes me remember the "buyer beware" that people always talk about when dealing with online transactions. I hope everything with those that got the short end of the stick(eg. not being able to contact OEM for their Exaltas) get everything sorted out and I hope that Mark get's his shit together, to hopefully succeed on another forum.

Maturity in people is, apparently, difficult to come by these days.

I didn't realize how immature OEM was about dealing with their customers, name calling, threats? Really? That's pretty childish.

I do realize, however, this is a difficult community to serve, so hats off to those that stay alive (eg. GregV).

This is a VERY difficult community to serve, you can't deny it. I'm not saying because the people are "cheap", didn't say that, who isn't? It is difficult to serve for several reasons, and they are very apparent by the lack of aftermarket support in comparison to the others. Having a company, or a group come onto a forum and start making products, is a "ballsy" move. Most of the time they don't know the forum well, so they, along with the forum members have to blindly trust who they're working with. They have to gain the trust of the people, and provide a good product with great customer service. By saying, "all you have to do is what you say you are doing, and if something goes wrong fix it in a timely manor and everyone is fine", that in itself is a difficult task! Not only to this forum, but to ALL businesses. This forum especially because what makes people want to make a product for us, when there are so many other cars that have much more support. I realize there are A LOT of things we want, that aren't easy to find, but we because of the lack of numbers in comparison to a Civic, 240, BMW, etc. , this will always be a difficult forum to serve. I applaud those that know how to run their businesses successfully.

javcrodgz, your statements broken up have a different meaning then when they are in the same sentence. Maybe you should clarify more when posting so we do not get the wrong idea, or you just decided to have a change of heart. This post is not about you, or attacking you in anyway. I originally thought you were talking about the people and not OEM judging by your other posts.

And of course I will be posting pics of the work.

Updates?

How do we as a Community fix that issue? Ideally, scammers/con-artists would get discovered before they worked their craft.

Noted. Learned the hard way how con-artists gain trust through an unwitting "ally", but thank you for bringing it up.

I personally am guilty as charged. Something I should work on, being more suspicious and less trusting on-line. I'm still a newbie to the net comparatively speaking to the younger members. Irony twice, a newbie who is less suspicious that he should be, is the exact same old fart that sizes folks up for danger signals at the grocery store on Sunday morning.

I know what you are talking about, I stayed out of that thread ().

Figured it got worked out, my bad on not being wary enough.

On the flipside, Vendors get every break possible around here, more than deserved in many cases - as...ahem....you yourself pointed out.

Everyone has a right to post, and folks tend to speak up when it involves scammers and theives.

However, when I do speak up, I am very, very hard to miss. When activated, I typically stand out like a bazillion watt neon sign radiating pure menace. Attention invariably gets focused on me. On-line or in person.

"I ya'm what I ya'm." Popeye.

That not only sucks badly, that is what I see us as a Forum trying to fix.

How do we collectively learn from "2010 - The Year of The Scammer" and move forward in a positive direction?

Good Point. Makes you wonder why some (not all) of the early early members don't really post on here.

There are always going to be shady sellers no matter which forum you visit. Its not just only this one. We just tend to watch out for one another. I didn't start this thread realizing it was going to get this big, but gives thanks to others who shared there info and for the mods taking action which is why I just became a forum supporter.

I could of started a thread saying F"""K OEM or something but didn't feel like it was needed. Atlease Mark sent out products instead of noithing even though some where half a$$. Not saying it was right though either. His customer service was really bad though.
