Stratton.

^I'm willing to pay. I'm not cheaping out, it's just a few things I had questions about. I kept everything through PM with guys that know more about these builds. Since this thread was made, I figured I would post, but I should have known it would turn semi sour .

^Maybe I was a little mislead by this total. I'm here to help and be helped. I am not bashing Mazwrox at all. For the third time, they do awesome work!

Just have them sleeve the block. Take off polishing and blaancing crank, assembly, manly rods, new s13? Oil pump, main studs.... you don't need them. Use a used pump and assemble this motor your self. If thee building it there going to want to build it there way. If you take off what I listed your down to like 2k. All you will need is a set of rods and ur done and someone to help you get things all together..

MAZ SRRS Resurface Block & Oil Pump Qty. 1 $100.00

^What about this Cory? What else would need to be machined on the block once it is sleeved?

And btw I am wrong the machining and pistons will be a little over 2k you still have 130ish for bearings then 250 for ur head gasket..

Below are the parts and or labor in question.

MAZ 11002 Mazworx SR20 Main Stud Kit Qty. 1 $165.00

This is a NA motor, factory main studs at $40 for a set can handle 450-500 WHP. NA motor will not make miore than 300 WHP and 210 LB Ft Torque ) Savings = $125

13500-50F00 Oil Pump, S13 SR20 Qty. 1 $240.00

everyone who has a VE motor should just use their used pump. These VE pumps dont give any trouble and came out of a working VE when pulled apart. All the motors I have done I have re used the used pump along with others that are doing great here on the forum. Savings = $240

CPP SC Custom CP Pistons (set of 4) Qty. 1 $600.00
MAN 14023-4 Manley H-Beam Rods SR20DET Qty. 1 $325.00

This is a little iffy, but I feel with such a large investment into Mazworx we should get a better bundle price for the pistons and rods. Maybe $850. We are shelling out $3500 plus so....... $75 saved.

MAZ SRRS Resurface Block & Oil Pump Qty. 1 100.00

This is the biggest arguement I have had and one of my friends have had with Mark at Mazwork. When you sleeve a block you have to resurface the block, this is part of the job. If you do not get the pump resurfaced with the block the charge is $0 but when you put the pump on the charge is $100. The process of putting the oil pump on on a bare block and bolting it down with 4 bolts takes no more than 2 mins and takes no more than 2 mins more to resurface the top of the pump.

Now I have had a few block done at Mazwork and left this process out. I had my machinest deck my oil pump and he charged me $40 to do this on a belt sander. So in my opinion this charge is way out of control. Savings $60-$100

MAZ SRCPBC Check, Polish, Balance Crank Qty. 1 $175.00

This one is a new one that I have seen but I have had 12 cranks in the past 16 year rebalanced by friends and myself and I have never had a Nissan SR20DE-VE crank out of balance. You can visually see if a crank needs polishing and if you start off with a good used motor 90% of the time polishing the crank is not needed. Savings = $175

You can add up the costs and see this is alot of money.

I am happy Mazwork has come along, the biggest contribution in my opinion was making the 92mm gasket. Pistons can be order and rods were always readily available so no big deal there. I was happy when Mark came along and I had a discussion with him about my sleeved block from 1998 and how my machinest did it. My machinist closed his doors and retired so when Mark started doing this and he listend to the problems that can happen and how my machinist did his, I had faith in him doing it.

Mark at Mazwork is a great Machinist but please dont nickel and dime us on the small stuff. There will be arguments on many things on the list that can go either way but the oil pump and block resurface for $100 is not right.

It is also significant that they have an SR20 torque plate, and can properly bore out an SR20, and have the ability to properly sleeve an SR20 engine. (Obviously you've helped in that department.) I know JWT has a torque plate and the ability but it's nice to have two options.

Calum sold his ECU harware rights to another company.

Charles is another story, which I dont understand.........................................

That was what I was saying:

1. JWT still sells what they already developed, but is not wasting any more time in developing VE cams or whatever else for the SR20, just not worth it for them anymore to do R&D for a bunch of cheapsters.

2. Calum felt we were a waste of time and energy he didnt have anymore.

3. I dont know Charles or his story, but from what I gathered he simply didnt want to deal anymore with the "you are too expensive", "your products dont give me 35WHP per dollar", "you should do R&D, show several comparison dyno charts, but charge waaaay less than SSAutochrome for your header" and similar comments / feedbacks.

4. I wonder if Mazworx will follow these patterns soon if they get the same treatment?

Honestly, I cannot blame the 3 guys/companies above and couldnt blame Mazworx either if they follow.

I dont agree with that statement about Calum. I met him at the 2009 Convention and I dont believe he thought it was a waste. But its hard to devote more time to a hobby that doesnt provide for your needs when you have a family and bills. I see no fault on his part.

Let's just keep supportimg them and along with a little constructive criticism hope they keep up the great work and continue supporting our cars...
