Thread: Time for a VE emission test

Well it is time for my VE swapped NX to go for a E-test, and since it took me only 7 re-test to pass emission with my previous DE (i think my Catco cat is a 2-way instead of 3-way one) I do not have high hopes for my VE!

So I need your help! Please pm me if you know anyone who could make my problem a little easier or if you know a "good" emission shop. Thank you.

Well, no more suggestions? How are you guys getting your emissions done?

All I need is a shop who will do emission on my VE as a "hot rod" which is meant for any car with a non-standard engine in it. Every emission will do it only if you present them with a valid receipt for engine install (which I do not have as I dropped it in myself).

was the NX offered overseas w/ a stock SR20VE engine?...cuz that's the only way I think you can claim 'hot rod' status for emissions test....correct me if I'm wrong but I was told that to be classified as a hot rod you will have to swap an engine not offered in that model year here in North America... example... again hypothetically..say you swapped it for a DET engine.....your car has a stock SR20DE engine here in North America but say same make/model in Japan has a SR20DET stock engine....had it been that scenario, then you can take your car to Nissan and have them draft a letter stating yes that engine is offered for that particular car outside of North America (I think the letter has to be drafted by the makers of the car)....then have your car registered as a hot rod.... then provide the proof to the emission testing center and you can have your car test as 'hot rod' and have it tested under 1980 emission standards... so swapping from DE -> VE (if not offered outside of North America) would not pass as a 'hot rod' ..... I hope I'm wrong as I'd really love to do a VE swap some day....lol...

it states that:
The Ministry of the Environment, solely for the purposes of emission inspection requirements under the Drive Clean program, has a legal definition of "hot rod"
Hot Rod: means a motor vehicle in which the original motor has been replaced with a motor of a type not installed by the manufacturer on that model of motor vehicle for the model year designated for the motor vehicle by the manufacturer

So based on that definition... it perfect sense.. NOT!!.. lol...

or perhaps get a "Conditional Pass" if the repair estimates to fix your car and pass the e-test is $450 or greater ....then you can still renew your plate sticker...that's how I renewed my plate sticker... the mods I had caused me to fail the e-test.. high Nox!.. hahaha.... thankfully the repair estimates were over $450 and I received a Conditional Pass...
