Also I think having to register your car as a hot rod would mean your car insurance will have to be involved... not sure how pleased they'll be with the whole 'hot rod' status...they might even terminate your insurance policy with them...lol...

My VE passed easily in Oregon. We don't test NOx though but it was well below our standard. I never had trouble getting a DE to pass either though. Why not just run it and see what happens?

I agree.. just take the e-test and find out..perhaps you'll pass and avoid the whole mess of 'hot rod' status...

Thanks for your suggestions, I know a shop that ONLY requires a receipt from a registered auto shop to say that they did the swap (doesn't matter what engine it is as long as it is from the same car) and then they do emission on 80's standard which should pass. I will let you guys know the update...
Conditional pass? No thanks, I will never leave $450 at a mechanic that will do random things to my car - had enough of that done in the past before I smartened up and started doing all the work myself. The $450 will almost buy me the 6ul's that I have been hunting for...

Dude they aren't dirty runners. What makes you think you won't pass?

actually the $450 is only repairs estimates.. you don't have to actually have the repair done to get a conditional pass... what happened with me is I was given a conditional pass and given a receipt of the repair estimates that needed to be done to pass the e-test (also helped that the mechanic was a friend and he wrote up a fake repair estimate over $450+)... so I took the e-test conditional pass receipt and the repair estimates receipt to MTO and was able to renew my plate sticker... definitely going to do that again when plate renewal comes around in another 2 yrs...

throw a bottle of methyl hydrate in the gas tank and warm it up really good before going to the E-test. also, fill the tank with 94, I guarantee a pass even if your cat is only a 2 way.

+1

#1 reason people fail is that they get the sniffer stuffed up the pipe when the car is cold and dumping tons of extra fuel into the engine to heat up the cat and engine. go on a really hot day, and keep the car running right up until the test (take someone with you and have them stay in the car while you handle business, buy em a slurpee if you have to).
