As Vector say don't do it , I have a B13 rally car, bent racing rally sens 06 and I promise you if you take the PS out you'll regret it !!! A bigger cooler will do the job and the PS will help you win races .....
Good lick with your project .

Alright, I definitely did not consider the possibility of a bigger P/S cooler. I'll have to take that into consideration as well - especially since I'd have to come up with the alternative tensioner if I deleted the P/S anyway.

gut the factory rack, its free and only takes an hour or so. You keep the quicker turning and no need to hunt down another rack. I had the looped lines on my B14 and it was harder to turn than my P10 with a gutted rack.

Wheelbases are so similar so this is a better comparison. B14 vs P10. I know the rack ratios are different between SE-R and P10 so this could explain the feeling you have (unless I am misunderstanding you)

A B13 is a fair amount shorter and this drastically helps to the feeling of a faster responding, quicker to manuever car.

Just like how fun a real Mini-Cooper is, crap "suspension" but it was so small, it is funner than sin.

Cannot speak to the rally racing aspect, however I have had a manual E rack for over 2 years now on my daily and love it. Went with a stretched belt with no tensioner also...

But the E rack is a slower rack to make up for the lack of power. IF the numbers I see elsewhere are right it's about 4.25 turns lock to lock on a E rack and 2.75 on a P/S rack. That means with a 1.5x quickener you'd end up about 2.8 turns lock to lock, or still slower than a P/S rack. Better to just leave the P/S rack in and loop it.

There are places that I think a manual rack would be great, but not where I expect to be steering lock-to-lock with the throttle pegged, fighting torque-steer, over rough terrain and modulating the brakes all at once. Wearing the equivalent of an oven mitt in a cabin that gets toasty even on cool spring days doesn't help. Rally isn't a short little 20-min sprint race, you can be in that car for 12-16 hours a day over two days and anything that increases driver fatigue is the enemy.

I used to boil the P/S fluid in just a couple turns on a rallycross course on a hot day, but between going to the larger B14 reservoir, and the additional cooling and fluid capacity adding a cooler and lines gives, I have never seen a recurrence.

I replaced my manul rack because i felt like a bus driver going through slaloms and tight turns at the local autocross. I still have all the parts if you are interested (i'm in CT)
for refference; the 92 factory service manual lists the following specs:

Manual Rack found in the E model:
steering overall gear ratio:22.7
turns lock to lock: 4.21

SE-R rack:
steering overall gear ratio: 16.5
turns lock to lock: 2.74
