Thread: effect of a worn prothane rear motor mount.

hey ya'll still chasing my front end noise. it is definitely in the front and is noticeable when accelerating and decelerating. it sounds like a whoom whoom whoom but goes away when cruising. does it in gear 1-3 mostly. when engine braking it kinda putters with the exhaust note. i have changed both axles, both wheel bearing and shifter bushings, did a tire rotation. when doing the shifter bushing i noticed a chunk of the rear mount was cut and the sleeve was super loose as if the hole had stretched where the sleeve slides in, so much so it almost just falls out on its own. so i turn to you all. can that rear mounts looseness make things shift enough to make a noise? if theres any info that would help ask away im on my last leg with this thing!

Get a whole new set of motor mount bushings,it's worth the $67 it costs you.I was having a number of issues,and I checked my 12 year old poly mounts.They crumbled apart in my hands I know you'll get a deep toned noise when the passenger side mount is bad,don't know about the back mount.Just get some new mounts,you'll be happier,and you'll have eliminated that as a possibility.It doesn't take a lot of slop in a bushing to make all sorts of things feel/sound awful.Just picture 400lbs of motor flopping around every time you accelerate/decelerate/shift.Not pretty.

Ive never seen someone destroy a prothane crossmember rear mount yet. This might be a first

I have seen more than a few go bad. The sleeve for the bolt tends to oval out the insert after time and they fail.

Exactly what happened to mine. I can post pics when I'm at my laptop. Good news is I contacted prothane who told me contact the people I bought them from to get them covered under lifetime warranty. Said I'd need a receipt and to go through them. Called summit, they found my 8 year old invoice in the system and asked me to send pics so prothane could OK the warranty. Ripped part off, sent email and within 30 mins prothane contacted me to get shipping info. The same day they sent a whole new set, all 4 mounts, free of charge and I got them from Costa mesa to Lancaster the next day.

Haven't installed yet but I'm super happy with the customer service of both prothane and summit racing. I have only pulled the rear and dog bone but so far both stretched or ovaled, the bottom dog bone mount. The guy at prothane hadn't heard of this but either way they sent me 4 new mounts after getting the pics to verify. Will hopefully finish up and report back as my noise has been ongoing for like a year.

Did you car ever any accident history? I don't see why you would have that problem unless your chassis is not aligned.

got it used and carfax doesnt show one. none that i know of though.

Sounds like the same symptoms I had when my front motor mount was shot.

hoping this alleviates my headache i mean noise lol. well as you socal people kmow, its wet and colder than i would like. so i will finish this later and get back to you!

Good find. I'm gonna check mine myself. They've been on the car for 8yrs and about 90k hard revving miles. I do have a few front end creaks as well too. Looking forward to seeing the images of the damage.
