Thread: B13 power steering elimination

Just after some real world experience from guys who've gone to manual steering in their B13's.
Car is track only so not worried about driveability.

Basically my plan was to get the power steer eliminator block and pulley off GregV and then...that's as far as I got haha.
I really want to know if just letting the rack run dry and then blocking off the lines is effective, i.e is the ratio gonna be totally rooted or not and will it still provide the right amount of feedback etc.

My friend went manual in his N15(B14) and he used a manual rack from an N13(B12 I guess?) with a number of mods and that works really well. CBF swapping racks though and fabbing shit to fit, so really hoping you guys have done this with success

Gut the rack, take the rack out and take the seals out and install the rack. Head over heals better than just looping the lines. What you do with the belt is up to you, there are many ways to do it. Try the forum manifesto for possibilities.

What's actually inside the rack?
By gut the rack I guess you just mean remove everything inside it plus drain the fluid? And then re install without seals/fluid? You've done this?

I did this on my P10 and it feels much better than my B14 with looped lines did. And an advantage over the regular manual rack is that you keep the quicker turn ratio, less turns lock to lock.

I've never pulled a steering rack out before, not too hard to just whip it out and remove fluid and seals?

Moto IQ has a good write up as well as many others. Basically take the rack out, take it apart and remove all of the seals, then re-assemble.

I believe even with gutting the rack there is still play that you want to get rid of. Without the pressure from the hydraulics, there is on-center play.
There are B13s that came with manual racks (The Sentra E and/or XE I believe). That's how I'd do it. Put in the proper rack.

I've just disconnected all lines from my rack and have been doing this for years. No problems here.

When it comes to the belt you can just gut out the PS pump and save a lot of money on that idler pulley
