Upgrading BMC
SO i got some NX calipers for B14 and had a couple question. Saw a little bit of opposite answers in my searches so I figured i'd just ask.

1.
Q. If i upgrade just the fronts to NX calipers should I upgrade the BMC?
1a. If yes, upgrade to NX or Altima or doesn't it matter, long as one of them?
A. Would help with braking, but def should if doing maxima rear brakes as well.
1b. Do I need to get ABS BMC if car has ABS and Non if Non?
A. *Altima ABS BMC might not work* ABS BMC has to be with ABS BMC and Non with Non

2.
Q. I assume if I upgrade the front to NX and rears to Maxima i should def upgrade BMC?
A. Yes

3.
Q. What years Maxima do I get the rears from?
A. 95-99 maxima or infiniti j30

4.
Q. What years Altima BMC do I use and how do I know the difference between ABS and Non?
A. ABS has 2 ports for lines F/R and Non Abs has 4 ports 2F/2R

I have a BMC from a 97 Altima. Some people say it wont work and seen a 94 suggested, but I've seen a write up on the forum where a person used one from a 95-98. Heres a pic below of what the BMC i have looks like....

Oh and just cause, here is the NX calipers

Just do the calipers keep shit simple.. you do not need fancy shit man.

Braided lines would be a better upgrade for you

i don't believe the abs altima mc will work in our cars with abs, but i could be wrong so don't hold me to it. you need to keep abs with abs and non with non.
se-r mc are slightly bigger than the others, about 1/16in diameter bigger. i would assume the nx mc is the same.
the u13 95-99 altima mc is 1/16 bigger than the se-r mc, 1/8 bigger than the others.
the rear calipers are off 95-99 maxima or infiniti j30

if you really want braking performance, get the u13 mc from a car with drums in the rear. those supply more pressure to the rear vs the disc.
maybe thats why everyone sells the u13 non abs mc and not that it just won't work in our cars

I was under the impression that the NX BMC was slightly bigger than the SER? Also the (97) Altima BMC i have shown above i've seen used in a write up somewhere of the conversion. How do i tell if its ABS or Non though?

ABS only has two ports for lines(front and rear)
Non has four (two fronts two rears)

as far as i know the nx mc is the same as se-r. that altima mc is good when using 4 piston/6 piston calipers because they have more moving parts. the bigger mc will decrease the required pedal movement. but if you already have it might as well use it

Correct the nx an ser bmc is the same, its the proportioning valve(s) that differ.. theres a thread somewhere that has a bunch of info on the proportioning valves.

Oh an even tho everyone already knows an it might of already been mentioned but there are different brands of bmc's that both cars use, ones a nabco or some shit an I forget the other but the proportioning valves dont interchange.. might be an abs thing but I dont think so... ran into that whem my friends went out an he got a new one and his old valves didnt fit.. went to the junkyard an found an nx which had the right ones lol

Cool, good info. So the one above should be non abs since it has 4 ports for lines and should work. I'm not doing the conversion unless I feel a noticeable difference when I put the nx calipers on but I just wanted to be sure I had the right one.
