Problem with B14 Tein Coilovers (pics) - advice appreciated!!
Hey guys,

I have Tein 22-way adjustable coilovers on my '97 SE-R. The dampening is adjusted by turning the top with an allen wrench. Lately, the front passenger side had becoming more and more difficult to adjust, it just seemed stuck. It started to strip my allen wrench so I took a wratchet w/ 8mm socket to try to get it to move. It did, but then it kinda just came off and won't go back on.

First, this is the top on the front driver's side, (the side without the problem) - it turns easily with an allen wrench:

Here is the front passenger side, once it "broke" off or whatever happened. I can't tell if it snapped off or just came out.

Here are the two pieces that are currently removed and don't seem to want to go back on:

So what do I do? If there's another way to adjust the dampening on the front passenger strut, that's fine with me, I'd imagine there has to be because turning a little allen wrench can't be all it is.

Do I need a new top mount piece? I hardy turned the thing with my ratchet and it just came out.

If the teins can be rebuilt its time for a rebuild if not look into their warranty policy if they have one.

I don't thnk theyd be under warranty. They were preinstalled on the car when I purchased it in 2011. I do know that the dampening setting was on #16 so it's up there. I guess if I cant fix it I'll just put the drivers side at #16 too I guess. lol

proper repair to have it rebuilt, if the top was seizing up on you, there is a problem inside the shock itself. You should get in contact with your local authorized TEIN dealer and get a quote. I've heard 200-250 ? I had the same thing happen on my B13 ended up sending in the front two in 2007. No issues since then

Okay, did you have to drop the car off with them for a few days? Or did they expect you to remove the assembly and ship it to them?

I worked for a TEIN dealer, and I had a spare set of front struts n springs, I sent them out and got them back a week later.

Looks like you broke the damping adjustment knob due to it seizing. I have the problem with my
Current tein SS's. I believe tein USA charges about $45 to replace each adjustment knob but they also charge for parts which is about $5-$10. I think it'd be best just to rebuild them for $95 a damper. Be sure to disassemble the coilovers because they charge $20 per damper for disassembly.

My question is why would you constantly be adjusting? Theres really no need to constantly change settings especially for a daily driver. I never messed with the settings on my konis unless I was prepping for a track day or hpde
