Thread: Camber plates / Adjustable pillowball mounts

Does installing adjustable camber plates/pillowball mounts eliminate the need for upper strut tower bearings? (i.e. does it replace that OEM unit?)

I need to replace my strut tower bearings but I'm considering getting the camber plates if it is going to replace those bearings in any event.

Also, what if any are the advantages/disadvantages of camber plates on a conventional strut/spring setup? Any 1/4 mile benefits?

the kit i got said you must still use the bearings. I would imagine without them it would wear the pillowball out quite fast

Cusco is the only company that makes camber plates for stock style springs that actually work without issues. You can look into those, however I think they require use of the stock upper spring hat, not the mount with the rubber bushing.

uh oh, what about Shigspeeds old units from back in the day?

He doesn't exist and there is only one set floating around for sale right now and it is the only set that has come up in the last 6 years or so.

I remember his stuff was always praised, and i always jump on a good suspension mod whenever i can.

Nice pick-up sir. I looked at them myself, just did not have the present budget. Dammit.

The Shig mounts were only for the rear, and yes, they're good stuff. I have two sets myself. For the front he used the GC plates that have torrington bearings built into them. You really want to keep some type of bearing in the system. The benefit of a plate doesn't change between a race spring and a conventional spring set up. The only real difference I can think of would be if there was a lack of clearance with the full size spring.
