WRX Coilovers B13 - Hear me out
So I put ISC coils in my buddies WRX swapped 2.5rs recently and noticed they have a very similar set up to a b13. Four corner McPhearson, three bolt upper shock mounts, two bolts to the knuckles, etc. Then I compared some autozone specs between our OEM shocks and the WRX shock was like .25in shorter iirc.

Now, raceland makes coilovers for the WRX. I've read up on them alot and they have alot that goes into them. Front camber plates, pillow ball upper mounts, seperate spring and height adjustments are all found on the racelands for the wrx. I understand that adjustable dampning is nice. But on the street theres almost no difference. If anything I've found that the racelands actually ride a little smoother on the street.

So, has anyone ever thought about using the $460 racelands in place of $950 d2s or ksports? If I can save 500 bucks by redrilling the strut tower then why not? My car is not a track car, but i'd like a decent ride and something that'll keep up when I feel like hucking it side to side somewhere.

The only thing I havent been able to check is the bolt spacing for the knuckle. I do know that depending on the year of the impreza they use a different knuckle bracket on the coils. I'm going to try to get a measuring tape on my friends stock struts asap but I'm pretty sure this will work and am willing to try it. I was going to order coils in a few weeks anyways, so why not save myself some muns?

So am I crazy, or has anyone else done this/thought about it?

If the knuckle hookup is the Same. U could probably just use camber plates made for our cars for the top mount...

Thanks guys. I know I'm new to this forum, but i've been lurking for awhile and I got fed up with the lack of interest in b13s on other sites. I'm going to update this with pictures and measurements asap. I've been toying with this idea for awhile, but now that I'm actually in the market for coilovers I'm going for it.

Even if the knuckle isnt exact, the raceland bracket threads off the shock body, so cutting and welding on new tabs for the bolts wouldnt be impossible. Or even just redrilling the knuckle bracket for the correct bolt holes.

As for using different camber plates, you could. But if its a matter of drilling 3 small holes in the strut tower, and you dont mind if people see it, why spend the extra money?

^^This guy redrilled the rear mounts. It isnt unheard of. Also some good pics of the WRX coilovers, you can see they have the bracket that threads off and individual preload and height like i mentioned.

So D2's suck for daily driving unless you live on a race track. Race lands are cheaper by far and I doubt they are any better.

- You guys that rock coilovers on a B13 for a true daily driver are hardcore. I have my AGX/Hypeco combo set on FRONT 1 and REAR 4 and that is more than enough for me. I know people knock Ksports, but if they are setup right, they perform very well. How long they last? That is another topic, but they will perform. I've been in a DE B13 on the track with them setup right and the car was impressive. At any rate, this is interesting and we look forward to your results.
