This could have turned out really bad
So i was driving home tonight on the highway and i get off my exit. It is a left hand sweeping turn that i will normally push 65+ around it for fun and be completely stable. Luckily for me tonight i had a cop following me off the exit so i was taking it slow, aprox 35mph. So i start the turn in and my steering wheel felt very unresponsive but it was steering so i didn't think much of it since i just wanted to get home. I get off the highway and onto teh main road, drive a little ways up and make a right turn onto my street. Go to turn the wheel and its very easy compared to how it normally feels since i have no PS with a PS rack. The steering wheel turns about a full turn and then the wheels finally respond. I get up to my house and go to turn into my driveway and the re is no resistance in my steering wheel at all. So now im getting pissed. I stop the car and turn the wheel in both directions and there is absolutely no resistance....Being it 2am i run up to my house and grab my tools and come back down to where the car is. I pull the steering wheel off via my NRG quick release hub. Pull the 6 allen head bolts off the actual quick release to gain view of the nut that holds the hub to the upper steering shaft. I tighten up the nut as much as i could, throw the quick release back on and hook up the wheel. Start up the car and go to turn into my driveway, but this time there is excessive resistance and the wheels respond just enough to turn into my driveway and get it parked close to my garage. At this point im getting pissed off at the whole situation. I rip everything back off, take the 19mm nut off and pull the momo hub off. First thing i inspect is the spline on the steering shaft and the hub. Splines on the shaft are fine, but the momo hub.... Half of the splines are completely gone and the upper half are still there. So now the only way i can have a drivable vehicle is if i leave the turn signal/wiper assembly unbolted from the steering shaft and just let it hang so the rest of the splines on the momo hub can contact the splines on the steering shaft.

I am just glad that this happened at my house instead of making a turn at a high speed or even just making some sharp turns on back roads

Wow man! Very glad nothing happened! I always think the same way even if nothing happens with my car Like "man if this didnt happen than what couldve happened... Glad your alright dude!

yeah thank god nothing bad happened to me..So now i need to figure out what i am going to do since i do not have my turn signals/headlight switch hooked up. I think i may need to get the momo short hub since the regular length one is pushing into the headlight/wiper switch assy and actually cutting into it.

You sure you have a real momo hub? I've seen this happen to eBay hubs, never a real momo or even grant hub..

Same. I've been weary about NRG hubs but I have never heard of this happening to them.

yeah man, the only reason why this happened was because the wrong hub was used on the car. It was only grabbing the first 1/8" of splines in the hub, now that i removed some metal from the back side, it grabs the rest of the splines
