Thanks Bennito. You would have seen a lot of clean sti's during your time in Cape Town no?

The 17"s ride ok. I changed from a coilover system to a conventional spring and strut setup with a less aggressive drop, so the ride is not harsh at all. However, though the 17s have firmer sidewalls which might make handling better in certain instances, it's as if the firmer sidewalls lend themselves to more wheelspin. Even unintentional wheelspin and chirping when taking off at the lights. 15"s with more sidewall and more elasiticity in the sidewall seem a little more forgiving here in my experience.

I just had the 15"s on a scale. 9.2kg or +/- 20.2lbs each. I also weighed my 205/50/15 semi and it's the exact same weight. A regular street tyre should weigh nearly the same Id imagine. Looking at Kumho KU31s for the wheels.

@ BenFenner the 17's have a bit of concaveness to them. Just at the end of the spoke they turn in. I know its kindof a paradox but good, concave rims are not readily available in SA. Unless you import.

Because 15" wheels won't clear his brakes.

smh.

There wer not a ton of clean Sabres or Sti around CT. I had a lot of trouble finding my twin cam. Remember I lived in Observatory... Honestly yours is close to the cleanest I've seen. Plus that's my favorite oem color.

I find 17" wheels handle terribly, im swopping back to 15" rims asap.

The lower profile sidewall breaks away far too suddenly, on bumpy uneven surfaces(rumble strips) because of the lack of give in the sidewalls they bounce instead of absorbing some of the bumps which in turn means zero mechanical grip on that tyre twice the pressure on the outside one. Im running a fully polybushed car on BC coilovers so mabye if i had a softer car setup tyre profile might not be a problem.

I currently have 205/40/17's on my restored N14 with an all motor vvl build inside.
I am contemplating going to 205/50/15's on the original Dots wheels for this car. The dots wheels below are photoshopped onto the car and perhaps a bit bigger than their actual size. But let me know which one you prefer, and secondly, if the 15's are a better idea in general.

gorgeous car ! i personally like the 5 star silver spoked 15s.

stratton.
