Thread: Brake pedal goes to floor after brake job

bleed in proper sequence and you only need 5 pumps. Make sure on pump 5 you keep full pressure on the pedal and open the bleeder fast so any air trapped in the line or caliper will shoot out.

I think the sequnce is driver front, passenger front, driver rear, passenger rear? can't completely remember.

I have the same problem on my B13 it only sort of stops when the pedal is on the floor

I always bleed starting from the line farthest from the MC and work my way up. I've seen people try to bleed without the cap on the MC as well.

Like Swags said, it seems like you might not be putting force on the pedal and pushing it to the floor as your friend opens the bleeder screw. Even if you did get air in the MC, which you can get a bench bleeder kit to fix that, you should still have somewhat of a pedal.

That pump 5-10 times method is not how I bleed at all. =/

Yeah, I normally just pump till it feels stiff. Then call out to release the bleeder.

This is how I bleed.

When I say "down" the person is instructed to press down on the brake pedal slowly and then leave it down.
When I say "up" the person can let off of the brake pedal.

Instruct "Down".
Open bleed valve to bleed fluid/air and then before the person gets to the end of the travel I make sure to close the bleed valve.
Instruct "Up" after you've closed the valve.


Continue to do that until no more air bubbles come out.
This method is so specific, you don't even need to hook up a hose and a bottle to the caliper if you don't want to, since no air will ever get back in.

This pump and bleed method sounds crazy to me.

My shop and everyone here uses this method.

"Pump it up" Instructed by the person bleeding. Then the person in the car pumps the brake till the pedal stiffens up.

"Holding" Is called out by the person in the car to let the person bleeding know it's okay to open the bleeder. At this point the person in the car is applying full pressure on the brake (all the way to the floor) until the person bleeding says "Pump it up" again.

Repeat until no more bubbles come out. Generally when installing new calipers or wheel cylinders this takes about 4 - 6 times per corner.

I can see that method working fine too. Okay.

I still think you put the calipers on incorrectly been there done that. Brake boosters dont usually go bad and your symptoms sounds exactly like mine when the calipers were on upside down.

I'm pretty sure we put the calipers on the same way the other ones came off. I can snap a pic after work and post it.

We bled it starting farthest from the bmc. He said it was a steady stream of fluid from every caliper.
